BMT Designs New Vessels for Isles of Scilly Steamship Company

Naval architecture and marine engineering firm BMT has introduced new passenger and cargo vessel designs to replace older tonnage in the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company fleet.Designed to replace the 44-year-old Scillonian III, a new 72-meter vessel Scillonian IV will carry 600 passengers over three decks with a contemporary, comfortable seating arrangement, onboard coffee shop and retail area. New Kitsap Transit Ferry Completes Sea Trials

A new BMT design 140-ft. catamaran passenger ferry has  reportedly passed its sea trial and is due to enter the Kitsap Transit fleet in the next few weeks. Dubbed Enetai, the boat was built by Nichols Brothers Boat Builders (NBBB) in Seattle, with a sister vessel, Commander,  due to be launched later in 2021.The ferry is designed to carry 255 passengers on a single deck, with space for up to 26 bicycles. LNG-fueled RoPax Ferry Completes Sea Trials

The first of two new 70-meter liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fueled RoPax ferries for Dutch operator Rederij Doeksen has completed sea trials in the Netherlands.The BMT-designed Willem Barentsz, and sister vessel Willem de Vlamingh, were built by Strategic Marine Shipyard in Vietnam while final outfitting and commissioning were completed by Rederij Doeksen.With an operating area within the Wadden Sea, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the main focus for Rederij Doeksen led by its managing director Paul Melles was on reducing the environmental impact of the vessel operation.

Jousset, Julien Finalists in Superyacht Awards

The designer Adrien Jousset (ASK Yacht Design) and naval architect Sylvain Julien (BMT Nigel Gee), have been selected as one of five finalists in the World Superyacht Awards, Young Designer of the Year 2009, for the Ostria design. “The high standard of entries presented the judges with no easy task in selecting the finalists,” stated Trevor Blakeley, Chief Executive of The Royal Institution of Naval Architects and Chairman of the judging panel. Ostria not only has a radical look but has also been developed to provide an answer to an environmentally conscious owner.
