Perkins Marine Unveils Two New Auxiliary Engines

Perkins marine is set to launch its new Perkins E44 and E70B auxiliary engines for use on inland waterways, tugs, governmental, fishing and ferry services.The new Perkins E44, an electronic 4.4 liter, 4-cylinder engine and the evolved E70B offer a broad range of power ratings and factory configurable power solutions to meet boat operators auxiliary power needs, the manufacturer said.“Our customers require more, and we are here to meet their expectations,” said Ben Lewis, sales support manager at Perkins marine engines…

Tema Port T3 Welcomes First Cargo Vessel

The first commercial vessel, Maersk Cape Coast has docked at the Terminal 3 at Tema Port after 3 years of expansion and modernization works to complete the first two berths.The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, which operates the harbor is located along the Gulf of Guinea, said that with the state-of-the-art technology and equipment, 1,427 containers were discharged and 730 containers loaded.Incidentally, Maersk Cape Coast was inaugurated and christened at the port of Tema in 2011. DP World, Tata Group Mull Cooperation Opportunities

Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corporation has taken delivery of the newly built ATB hopper dredge Ellis Island and tug Douglas B. Mackie following completion of U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) regulatory sea trials. DP World Reports 13.5% Container Volume Hike in Q3

DP World Limited handled 52.3 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) across its global portfolio of container terminals in the first nine months of 2017, with gross container volumes growing by 10.0% year-on-year on a reported basis and 9.6% on a like-for-like basis. The third quarter growth rates accelerating to 13.5% year-on-year on a reported basis and 13.3% on a like-for-like basis, ahead of second quarter growth and Drewry Maritime’s upgraded industry estimate3 of 5.5% throughput growth in 2017. Global trade outlook improved significantly in 2017 with the World Trade Organization recently upgrading trade growth from 2.4% to 3.6% in 2017 and all three DP World regions saw third quarter growth rates accelerate even more than the second quarter of 2017…

Arctech Helsinki Shipyard Awards Contract to MELCAL

MELCAL said it has received a new contract from Arctech Helsinki Shipyard for the design and production of two ATEX Zone 1, IIB T3 cranes to be installed onboard an icebreaking arctic tanker. The hose handling cranes will feature heated cabins and are designed to handle both cargo hoses and bunker fuel hoses, as well as provisions and engine spares. Drewry’s Z-score carrier financial stress index sunk to its lowest ever point following the first-half 2016 results. After Hanjin’s bankruptcy shippers are demanding more financial transparency from carriers. Larson Electronics Debuts Multi-colored Explosion Proof Signal Light with horn

Larson Electronics released a new multi-colored hazardous location LED signal light with a 110dBA audible horn. The HAL-TL-5X10W-C-PA from Larson Electronics is a Class 1 Division 2 hazardous location LED signal stack light equipped with an audible horn and approved for use in hazardous environments where explosive and flammable gases, vapors, and dusts may occasionally be present. This hazardous location stack light is designed for routing traffic in industrial refueling stations and processing status indications in manufacturing facilities. The signal light is equipped with five 10 watt LED lamps, producing an amber, red, blue, green, and white light output.

DP World Logs 3.0% Growth

DP World Limited handled 61.7 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) across its global portfolio of container terminals during 2015, with gross container volumes growing by 3.0% on reported basis and 2.4% on a like-for-like  basis. Growth in 2015 was largely driven by European and our UAE terminals. The portfolio benefited from the ramp-up in London Gateway and the UAE handled a record 15.6 million TEU’s, representing like-for-like growth of 2.3% for the year. Utilisation at Jebel Ali remains high at approximately 90% despite the softer volumes in Q42015. Market conditions in the second half of 2015 were challenging, with our like-for-like gross throughput growth flat year-on-year in Q4 2015.

DP World Box Volume Up 3.2%

DP World Limited handled 46.5 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) across its global portfolio of container terminals during the first nine months of 2015, with gross container volumes growing by 3.2% on a like-for-like  basis. On a reported basis gross volumes grew by 3.7%. Growth in the nine months was largely driven by Europe and UAE terminals. The UAE handled 11.9 million TEU, representing growth of 4.0%. Our European portfolio continues to be robust despite the difficult market conditions. The Indian subcontinent delivered an improved performance as it benefitted from the recent capacity addition at Nhava Sheva (India). Performance in the Americas has remained challenging due to continued weak economic conditions.

Jebel Ali Port Leads in Port Productivity

Global marine terminal operator DP World’s flagship Jebel Ali Port has demonstrated once again that it delivers the world’s best productivity for ships berthed at its docks. According the latest JOC Port Productivity data, compiled by industry analysts Journal of Commerce, Jebel Ali recorded a world-leading 131 moves per ship per hour in 2014, up 10 percent from 119 in 2013. The ranking is based on JOC’s analysis of more than 125,000 port calls in 2014 that placed Jebel Ali form the UAE and six ports from China in the Global Top 10 for the year.

Optimarin Opens Up New BWT Market

Ballast water treatment (BWT) specialist Optimarin has announced that it has received full EX approval for a modified version of its market proven Optimarin Ballast System (OBS). The approval means the Norwegian firm can now target the chemical tanker segment, augmenting the 310 unit orders it has already received and increasing a market share that currently stands at around 10%. Optimarin’s specially engineered EX model meets with stringent Zone 1 ATEX requirements, making it suitable for installation onboard a wide variety of tankers carrying flammable or explosive materials.

5 Quay Cranes Arrive At DP WORLD’S Jebel Ali Terminal

Global marine terminal operator DP World today announced that its new Container Terminal 3 at its flagship Jebel Ali Port is making good progress with the arrival of 5 new quay cranes and half of its 19 automated cranes being tested before the start of initial operations in the next few weeks. The 4 million TEU (twenty foot equivalent container units) capacity of Terminal 3, makes it the world’s largest semi-automated facility once fully operational. Terminal 3 has seen a number of developments since its inauguration by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in January.

Dubai's Ports Container Throughput Milestone

DP World celebrates the 100 millionth container to pass through DP World, UAE Region terminals in ten years. The 100 million TEU record was achieved between January 2003 and January 2013 and covers all container boxes handled in both Mina Rashid and Jebel Ali Port. Enhanced Scarabeo 5 Passes CAT

The Kongsberg Maritime Class 3 DP system installed on the Saipem owned Scarabeo 5 passed its Customer Acceptance Test (CAT) on last December 23. Scarabeo 5 is a Semi-Submersible built by Fincantierri shipyards and delivered in 1990. The upgrade, carried out while Scarabeo 5 was still in operation (drilling and completing) consisted of a triple redundant Dynamic Positioning System and Position Mooring System (SDPM-31) with a fire backup (Class 3). Kongsberg Maritime carried out the initial site survey on Scarabeo 5 in November 2004 and the contract was awarded at the end of December 2004. Following the FAT in May 2005 commissioning commenced with the cable pulling, contracted to Servie AS from Porsgrunn in Norway.
