Multi-National Consortium to Construct Russian Far East Shipyard

Russia's Rosneft, Gazprombank, Sovcomflot with Korean shipbuilding company Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on key terms of co-operation to establish a shipbuilding and industrial cluster in the southern part of Primorskiy Krai (Russian Far East). The parties agreed to jointly complete the construction and launch a new shipyard – shipbuilding complex Zvezda – in 2016, to establish a Russian-Korean engineering center for shipbuilding and marine equipment for offshore projects. The companies also agreed key terms for technology exchange, localization of production and contracts placement.

Korean Register and Dongkuk Implement Technology Exchange

The Korean Register – an IACS member class society - signed an MoU with global steel producer Dongkuk Steel. The agreement paves the way for the two organizations to cooperate on the exchange of strategic technology relevant to the construction of seagoing vessels and platforms. Specifically, the agreement defines mutual cooperation for developing and surveying rolled steel used in the building of ships and marine structures.  It covers new domestic projects such as natural gas carriers, technical information sharing on technology trends, information sharing on future demand for steel including from international and domestic ship yards, joint studies into the approval and development of new steel types and KR’s third-party surveying of Dongkuk Steel’s products. www.krs.co.kr

Strong Russian Presence at Oil & Gas Africa '12

Recent new oil and gas discoveries all over Africa are attracting investors and developers from around the world. Russia is the latest country to show an active interest in the continent’s oil and gas industry. The country will be sending a trade delegation to attend Oil & Gas Africa 2012, which takes place March 13-15 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. This is the first time these companies and organizations will attend the show. The high-level Russian group will consist of chief executive officers, chief technology officers and policymakers who intend to pursue exploring opportunities on the subcontinent.
