MSC Awarded DNV GL Containership Fire Safety Notation
Classification society DNV GL had awarded a new class notation to mitigate fire risks on containerships to MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company. The notation, announced by DNV GL â Maritime CEO Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen in London, has been implemented on the largest containerships in the world, the 23,000+ TEU MSC Gülsün class.The new FCS notation is targeted exclusively towards containerships. It is designed around a function-based approach, for an enhanced safety level beyond present SOLAS requirements, an increased hazard awareness, and an enhanced ability to detect and fight container fires.
DNV GL Calls for Action to Meet Paris Climate Target

Rotterdam Port Report Record Month
With 13.6 million tonnes of container freight handled, April of this year was the best month ever for the Port of Rotterdam. Deepsea Challenger a Hit in Navy Museum
The record-breaking manned submersible was brought to the Navy Yard to be with the Trieste, which is housed in the National Museum of the United States Navy. The Navy museum says that a large number of school children stop by to see Deepsea Challenger, a submarine designed by James Cameron, Academy Award-winning film director and diver, and Ron Allum, Deepsea Challenger pilot. MAN B&W Engines in Two New Capesizes EEDI Compliant
Centrans (Tianjing) Ocean Shipping has received EEDI compliance certificates for two 180,000 dwt newbuildings. The company reports this as being a first in the global Capesize bulk carrier segment. The two ships are each powered by a single MAN B&W 6S70MC-C8.2 low-speed engines built by Dalian Marine Diesel, and the vessels were built at QingDao Beihai Shipyard in Eastern China.
