BSEE Dir. Salerno to Address Offshore Technology Conference

Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) Director Brian Salerno will be traveling to Houston for the 2015 Offshore Technology Center May4-7 at NRG Park. The annual conference is an international gathering showcasing leading‐edge technology for offshore drilling, exploration, production, and environmental protection. Director Salerno will be discussing the bureau’s advancements in reducing risk offshore. 1:00 p.m. 7:30 a.m. 2:00 p.m. What: OTC Luncheon with the Center for Offshore Safety: Improving Effectiveness of Safety and Environmental Management Systems and Recognizing Contributions. 12:15 p.m. – 1:45 p.m.

OTC Celebrates 35 Years of Innovation

The annual Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) is scheduled to convene in Houston's Reliant Center on May 3-6. The event, expecting to draw more than 2,000 exhibitors and 50,000 attendees, celebrates 35 years of innovation and the importance of offshore resources. Aptly themed "Innovation Without Limits," OTC will feature nearly 50 technical sessions and more than 340 technical presentations, introducing the latest offshore technology to participants. OTC's annual agenda overviews technology for offshore drilling, exploration, production, and environmental protection, which demonstrates the conference's comprehensive coverage. During the four-day event, OTC is scheduled to deliver notable speakers, presentations, and general sessions within the 398,000 net square feet of exhibit space.

Offshore Petroleum Industry Pioneers Receive Hall of Fame Induction

The Offshore Pioneers Gala, sponsored by the Offshore Energy Center (OEC) Society, showcased the 1999 class of offshore petroleum industry pioneers inducted into the OEC Hall of Fame. Robert F. Bauer, former president of Global Marine, for his developments in the technology of offshore drilling from floating drilling rigs. Herman Brown and George R. Brown, founders of Brown & Root in 1919, created a premier design and construction company, producing offshore platforms and pipelines. Ralph Thomas McDermott began J. Ray McDermott & Co. when he took a contract to build 50 wooden derricks in Luling, Texas. Lad Handelman and D. Michael Hughes co-founded Oceaneering International, Inc., in 1969. Together, they oversaw several major innovations in underwater technology.
