Telenor Maritime Partners with Globetech

Telenor Maritime has entered into a collaboration agreement with Globetech AS in a move intended to strengthen potential for business development and provide greater market access for both partners.Globetech is a provider of ICT technology and services for vessels and floating offshore installations worldwide. Royal Wagenborg renews contract with Castor Marine

Royal Wagenborg renewed and extended Castor Marine’s Global Ku VSAT connection for multiple years.Since 1898 the Dutch family-owned shipping company has been crossing the oceans, evolving to a fleet operator with about 200 vessels. Besides the extension of 52 Global Ku VSAT contracts, Castor Marine will equip an additional 15 Wagenborg vessels, currently on 4G, with VSAT. For more than eight years the company has provided VSAT, Iridium, Inmarsat FBB, and IT services to the Wagenborg fleet.

Glamox CEO Transition Set for 2022

Glamox said that Rune Marthinussen,CEO & President, plans to retire from the company next year, and that the Board of Directors has appointed Astrid Simonsen Joos to succeed him as CEO. The change takes effect August 1, 2022, and Marthinussen has agreed to support Astrid full time until December 31, 2022. Astrid Simonsen Joos most recently served as Global Chief Digital Officer and Head of Transformation of Signify (previously Philips Lighting). She has throughout her career had roles in the software industry and within digital business developments through numerous management positions at Microsoft and the position as CEO of a digital agency (Creuna). Astrid Simonsen Joos also currently serves on the boards of Telenor and Nordea Invest.

SATCOM: Intellian Antennas get type approval from Telenor

Intellian’s v60Ka 2 (above) and v100NX Ka antennas are now approved for the THOR 7 satellite network.

Intellian announed that two of its  antenna systems, the v60Ka 2 and v100NX Ka, have gained type approval from Telenor Satellite for use on their THOR 7 Ka-band GEO satellite network. This means that the systems are now officially certified to take their place in service alongside Intellian’s v85NX, the first 85cm antenna to receive type approval on the network.The Intellian v100NX Ka is "future-proofed" according to the manufacturer, with a specially-tuned radome and reflector in anticipation of forthcoming 2.5GHz wideband Ka network services.

Baksaas Appointed DNV GL’s Chair of the Board

Former Telenor CEO Jon Fredrik Baksaas has been appointed as DNV GL’s new chair of the board, the Norwegian-headquartered classification society announced.Best known for his 13-year tenure as president and CEO of the telecoms firm, Baksaas started his career with DNV (as it was then known) and spent six years at the company before leaving in 1985. He has also served as member of the DNV Council for 12 years.“DNV GL is a company that is well positioned to take a role as a trusted voice to tackle the global transformations the world is facing.

DNV GL Names New Vice Chair

International accredited registrar and classification society DNV GL has announced that Jon Fredrik Baksaas has been appointed the Vice Chair of its Board of Directors.The Norway-headquartered classification body said in a press release that Baksaas started his working career in DNV in 1979 and worked in Norway and Japan until he left DNV in 1985.He went on to work in Stolt-Nielsen and Aker and topped his executive career with more than 25 years in Telenor – the last 13 as CEO and President until he stepped down in 2015.Baksaas has served 12 years as a member of the DNV Council. Telenor Maritime Acquires Satpoint AB

Telenor Maritime has acquired SatPoint AB, a firm with a strong position in the Baltic Sea with more than 125 maritime broadband installations on ferries, merchant vessels, and floating accommodation units. The merger is dependent on approval from competition laws. SatPoint AB is a provider of broadband satellite communication and IT services for maritime customers in Europe and across the globe, delivering VSAT equipment and capacity, teleport, and operations, enabling services such as VoIP, GSM, VoD, and TV. Skytech's BB75 Ka-band Antenna Ready for THOR 7 Services

Telenor Satellite announced that is has approved the BB75 Ka-band antenna, produced by telecommunications company, Skytech, for use with Telenor’s new THOR 7 Ka-band payload. Skytech is the latest antenna supplier to receive approval from Telenor Satellite for its recently launched THOR 7 Ka-band services. The antenna – approximately 75cm in diameter, compact in design, and weighing only 35 Kgs – is a new product from Skytech, optimised for use with Telenor Satellite’s Ka-band maritime spot beams. With up to 20Mbits of bandwidth, the BB75 Ka-band model is an attractive mid-sized antenna, designed for maritime Ka-band users who require high-speed connections and large bandwidths on board yachts, passenger ferries, and commercial and support vessels.

THOR 7 Ka Band Mobility Service Ready for Launch

Telenor Satellite announced the commercial readiness of its THOR 7 Ka-band mobility service. The Ka-band payload offers regional coverage with a favorable look angle over the main European shipping lanes and utilizes high-powered spot beams, providing unprecedented performance for maritime applications. Since the commercial handover of the THOR 7 satellite in June 2015, Telenor Satellite has been carrying out a Ka-band testing program prior to its commercial launch. The final testing phase involved more than 15 customers running sea trials on approximately 30 vessels, with up to 50 remote terminals testing the service across THOR 7’s footprint. Telenor Satellite’s THOR 7 HTS Ka-band service offer 6-9 Gbps throughput with up to 25 simultaneously active spot beams.

Telenor's Ka-band to Service 200 Terminals

Telenor Satellite has announced that its Ka-band satellite capacity packages for land-based services in the Middle East have surpassed initial expectations, reaching more than 200 terminals within the first six months of commercial operation. Telenor Satellite commercially launched its iDirect land-based services for the Middle East and North Africa in Q4, 2015, via its new THOR 7 satellite. Since the launch, more and more customers throughout the Middle East region have contracted our land-based services packages, specifically in countries where there is limited fibre connectivity and satellite is the preferred distribution platform for vital and reliable communication links.

Marlink Opens Office in Singapore

Marlink has moved to a new office in Singapore in order to meet the growing demand for delivery and support of its portfolio of multi-band, business critical communication solutions for maritime customers operating in Southeast Asia. The original Marlink Singapore office was opened in 1998. The new Marlink Singapore office adds new facilities and potential while continuing to be a vital resource for local and international vessels through delivery of sales, installation and support services. The new office managed by Eric Jan Bakker, Head of Sales Asia in Marlink, includes a fully equipped support center operating seven days a week, in addition to live test, demonstration and training facilities, covering all of Marlink’s core connectivity services and solutions.
