Eidesvik Equips Fleet with Energy Efficiency Software

The Norwegian offshore shipowner Eidesvik has signed a contract with Yxney Maritime for the use of Yxney's Maress energy efficiency software on its vessels, as a step towards further emissions reduction.Maress is a cloud-based system using available data produced by the vessels to create insight and transparency about the fuel consumption and emissions from operations. As part of the agreement, the software will initially be deployed on six offshore vessels owned by Eidesvik."We are excited to add Eidesvik to the list of ship-owners using Maress.

BSEE, NASA to Examine Offshore Risks

The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) and The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) have announced a five-year agreement allowing BSEE to capitalize on the best risk management approaches from the aeronautics industry to inform stakeholders and further strengthen worker and environmental safety protections on the Outer Continental Shelf. “Both BSEE and NASA work in harsh and uncompromising environments, relying on cutting edge technology to go deeper and further than previously thought possible,” said BSEE Director Brian Salerno. •    assess failures and near miss occurrences using the resources and expertise of NASA's accredited failure analysis laboratory at the Johnson Space Center in Houston.

Retlif Testing Laboratories, a strategic compliance organization and a leading independent testing laboratories, is celebrating its 35th year of operations. President Walter Poggi officially announced the anniversary with a series of planned events and pledged to uphold the personal service that has been the organization’s hallmark since its inception. DNV Gains USCG Acceptance

DNV said it has become the first class society to achieve the status of an Independent Laboratory (IL), meaning it is authorized by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to evaluate and test technologies designed to treat ballast water on ships in order to prevent the spread of non-native aquatic species in lakes, rivers and coastal waters. DNV is leading a partnership between test facility DHI, Denmark and DNV Certification to test and evaluate systems in accordance with the USCG requirements. More test facilities – in addition to DHI - are in the pipeline to be added to DNV’s network of subcontractors worldwide. These include the Golden Bear Facility in California and Delta in Denmark.

Retlif To Help Test Ballast Water Technology

Retlif Testing Laboratories is part of a partnership to evaluate and test technologies designed to treat ballast water on board ships against non-native aquatic species in American coastal waters, lakes and rivers. The U.S. Coast Guard developed regulations to limit the release of live organisms and to reduce the risks associated with the spread of aquatic invasive species. Ballast water management system manufacturers (BWMS) will apply to NSF International and the U.S. Coast Guard for testing, review and evaluations.

Ballast Water Treatment Systems Lab USCG Recognized

NSF International gains United States Coast Guard acceptance as Independent laboratory for ballast water management system testing. NSF International (NSF), an independent public health organization, has become the first Independent Laboratory (IL) accepted by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to evaluate and test technologies designed to treat ballast water on ships in order to prevent the spread of non-native aquatic species in lakes, rivers and coastal waters. NSF is leading a partnership between Retlif Testing Laboratories (Retlif), the Great Ships Initiative (GSI) and the Maritime Environmental Resource Center (MERC) to test and evaluate systems to the Coast Guard requirements.

Maintenance and Repair Complete on Sea Fighter

Austal USA, in conjunction with prime contractor, BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards Alabama, has completed a four-month drydock and shipyard availability for the Sea Fighter (FSF-1), based out of Panama City, Florida. The Sea Fighter is an aluminum catamaran, operated by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) that has been used to test technologies for the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) and Joint High Speed Vessel (JHSV) programs. Under a very aggressive schedule, Austal workers installed a new Counter Measure Washdown (CMWD) System to help keep future Naval combatants operational in a nuclear, biological or chemical battle-space. Other Austal work items included the modification of ballast tanks and the installation of water jet skirts on both hulls.

In March this year, The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency proposal to designate waters off the North American coasts as an Emission Control Area was adopted by IMO, the International Maritime Organization. The North American ECA is a key part of a comprehensive EPA program to address harmful emissions from large ships. Which are the time schedules of upcoming emission regulations?
