Marinette Marine Seeks Contractors

According to a report from the Greenbay Press Gazette, on March 23 the Marinette Marine Corp. Small Business Industry Day was held in Wisconson for prospective contractors, offering possible suppliers one-on-one sessions with Marinette Marine Corp. engineers and buyers. Marinette Marine held a similar meeting in Escanaba, Mich. Lockheed Martin recently landed a contract to build up to 10 littoral combat ships for the U.S. Navy at Marinette Marine.   Source: Green Bay Press Gazette

Marinette Marine Workers Get $500K Training Grant

According to a report from the Green Bay Press Gazetter, Wisconsin’s Bay Area Workforce Development Board will receive a $500,000 state grant to train new and existing Marinette Marine Corp. workers ahead of a pending contract to build 10 additional Navy combat ships at the shipyard.   (Source: Green Bay Press Gazette)

McCain Wants Delay for LCS Deal

According to a Dec. 15 report from the Green Bay Press Gazette, Sen. John McCain pushed for a delay in Senate approval of a U.S. Navy plan to buy 20 ships — 10 of which would be built at Marinette Marine Corp. The Navy officials said a delay in the process could further stress vendors and shipyards as they wait for Congress to make a decision about a Navy proposal to buy 10 littoral combat ships each from Lockheed Martin and Austal USA. Coast Guard Orders Keep Marinette Marine Busy

The cutter Mackinaw is one of 31 vessels Marinette Marine Corp. has produced for the U.S. Coast Guard. The company is also building 180 high-speed interdiction boats for the Coast Guard over the next decade, said Bob Herre, president of the Manitowoc Marine Group. The first six of the 45-ft. response boats are expected to be delivered late this year and in early 2008. Defense contacts make up about half of the work done by The Manitowoc Co.'s marine group, said Steve Khail, director of investor relations and corporate communications for The Manitowoc Co. Inc. Manitowoc owns both Marinette Marine Corp. in Marinette and Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay. Bay Shipbuilding focuses on much of the commercial work done by the company. In recent years Marinette Marine Corp.

Bay Shipbuilding Wins Contract

Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay, a subsidiary of The Manitowoc Company Inc., has been awarded a contract to build two 521-foot long tank barges. The contract includes options for two additional vessels. The contracts were issued by U.S. Shipping Partners, a leading provider of long-haul marine transportation services. The company provides transport for refined petroleum and chemical products. The barges are scheduled for delivery in 2008. The 72-foot wide barges, which can hold 156,000 barrels of oil, are designed for ocean travel and will be used for transport along the East Coast. They will be the 15th and 16th tank barges ordered from The Manitowoc Company since 1999. (Source: Green Bay Press Gazette)
