Anchorage Launch Gets New Metal Shark-built Crew Boat

Metal Shark delivered a welded-aluminum 45 Defiant crew boat to Anchorage Launch Services Company, an Oregon-based operator providing launch, line, pilotage, and cargo services to vessels on the Columbia and Willamette Rivers.Designed in-house by the Metal Shark engineering team and built at the company’s Jeanerette, La., production facility, the 47 x 12 ft. twin-diesel waterjet-powered “Triumph VII” is now in service.“Our captains, crew, and passengers have all been very impressed with the capabilities of our new vessel,” said Alex Scott, COO of Anchorage Launch.

MOL Adopts Thermal Imaging System for Coal Carriers

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced the introduction of the FLIR C2 thermal imaging system commercialized by FLIR Systems Japan K.K. on MOL Group-operated coal carriers. The system, which relies on infrared rays, helps prevent spontaneous combustion of coal in the cargo hold, enhancing the MOL group’s safe operation system. Coal loaded in the hold can oxidize, generating heat during transport and cargo operations. Raytheon IBNS for New Italian Coast Guard Ships

Germany-based Raytheon Anschuetz with Italian provider Seastema, to deliver Integrated Bridge & Navigation Systems (IBNS) for two Italian Coast Guard military patrol vessels. The vessels are currently being built at Fincantieri's Castellammare di Stabia (Naples) shipyard. Delivery of the IBNS will be the first military application under a teaming agreement between Raytheon Anschuetz and Seastema. Together, the companies will provide Italy's Coast Guard patrol vessels with the latest generation IBNS, fully integrated with Seastema's SEAS-Navy ship automation system.

New Fireboat Delivered to MassPort

In October 2011, the new RAnger 2400 Class Fireboat, American United was delivered to the Massachusetts Port Authority by the builder A.F. Theriault & Son Ltd. The vessel, named in remembrance of September 11, 2001, was designed by Robert Allan Ltd. of Vancouver, B.C., who worked closely with the Owner to define the vessel's specific operational requirements. The American United will replace Massport's existing vessel Howard W. Fitzpatrick, built in 1971. Darren Hass, P.Eng. was the Design Project Manager at Robert Allan Ltd.
