Wallenius Wilhelmsen's New RoRo Vessel Nabucco Named in Sweden

Wallenius Wilhelmsen has recently celebrated the naming ceremony of the RoRo vessel MV Nabucco at the Port of Gothenburg.The ceremony was live-streamed from Gothenburg, with only a select group attending due to the recent increase in Covid cases. Wallenius Wilhelmsen's Final HERO Car Carrier Delivered

Norwegian shipowner Wallenius Wilhelmsen said it has taken delivery of Nabucco, the fourth and final vessel in a series of new high-efficiency RoRo (HERO) car carriers.The highly efficient post-Panamax vessels, built by China's Tianjin Xingang Shipbuilding, are each 200 meters long, with capacity of a LCTC and capability similar to a Mark IV. Upgraded Wärtsilä 20 Engine Attracts Multiple Orders

Wärtsilä has received a series of notable orders for the upgraded version of its Wärtsilä 20 engine.A total of 33 engines have been ordered for merchant auxiliary power application in three major shipbuilding projects. The orders, which were booked in June, have been contracted with Wärtsilä Qiyao Diesel Company Ltd (WQDC), the joint venture company of Wärtsilä and Shanghai Marine Diesel Engine Research Institute (SMDERI).The engines will be installed in 11 new vessels being built in shipyards owned by China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC).

CMA CGM to Upgrade its FAL 1 Service

In order to improve the reliability of its service, CMA CGM has decided to review the port coverage of FAL 1. As from m/v CMA CGM JULES VERNE voy. 115 FLE, FAL 1 service will no longer call the port of Zeebrugge. Last vessel calling Zeebrugge will be m/v CMA CGM VASCO DE GAMA voy. 113FLE on August 29th, 2016. The Switch's PM Shaft Generator for LNG Vessel

The Switch, a specialist of megawatt-class permanent magnet (PM) machines for advanced marine drive trains, has been selected to deliver its PM shaft generator for an LNG carrier with a 45,000 cubic meter cargo capacity, allowing the vessel to gain greater efficiency over its entire speed range. This order is part of a complete energy efficiency system being delivered by WE Tech Solutions (WE Tech) of Finland to Saga LNG Shipping Pte. Ltd. The vessel will be built by China Merchants Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. Earlier this year, The Switch received a PM shaft generator order with an option of one more from the energy-efficient solution provider WE Tech for an LNG carrier owned by Saga LNG Shipping Pte. Ltd. Deliveries are scheduled to commence in October 2016.

CMA CGM Offers a New Direct Connection with La Reunion on its ASAF Service

CMA CGM announced that a new call at Pointe des Galets (La Reunion) will be introduced on its ASAF service, connecting Asia to West Africa, and operated with 13 vessels of 9,400 TEU. The maiden voyage direct to La Reunion will be operated with m/v CMA CGM TANYA in Xingang on March 22nd, 2016. La Reunion will be reached in 20 days from Shanghai, 16 days from Nansha and 9 days from Southeast Asia. Thru the strategic hub of La Reunion on ASAF service, CMA CGM will offer a fortnightly fixed-day service to Mayotte. Longoni will be reached from Shanghai in 30 days. Stability and service continuity will benefit customers in Comoros and North Madagascar and will permit to further develop the Reefer product.

Tianjin Chemical, Oil, LPG Terminals Closed Following Explosion

All chemical, oil and LPG terminals in Tianjin port are closed following immense warehouse explosions that left dozens dead and hundreds more injured yesterday in Tianjin, China, advises maritime and cargo services provider Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS). The region was blasted as shipments of explosives caught fire and triggered explosions that rocked the Tianjin industrial port, which serves as a gateway to Beijing and major base for petrochemicals, refining and other industries. The port authority has arranged some un-berthing of bulk ships from midday local time, ISS said, but noted there is no schedule for vessels berthing. It is unknown when the terminals will reopen.

Evac's Total Waste Management for Atlantic Mercy

The global cleantech company Evac has been chosen to supply its total waste management system to the world’s largest civilian hospital ship, the Atlantic Mercy. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Mercy Ships, the ship will provide medical care in the poorest parts of Africa. Research Vessel Concept a First for Voith

The new fisheries research vessel of the Shanghai Ocean University will be a first for Voith in several respects. It is the first fisheries research vessel world-wide to use the proven Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP) propulsion concept. And it is the first offshore order Voith has received from a Chinese customer. With its two 28R5 ECS/234-2 Voith Schneider Propellers, the research vessel with a length of 81.6 meters and a beam of 14.2 meters reaches a maximum speed of approximately 15 knots.

The Switch Receives PM Shaft Generators Order

The Switch, a supplier of megawatt-class permanent magnet (PM) generator and full-power converter packages for wind power and other renewable energy applications, received another order to deliver two PM shaft generators to WE Tech Solutions of Finland. At the end of February 2015, WE Tech Solutions placed another order for two PMM 1000 M shaft generators from The Switch with the option for an additional two to be used in future WE Tech Solutions projects. WE Tech Solutions utilizes the PM machine both as generator and motor in their direct-drive permanent magnet shaft generator solution.

COSCO Orders Deltamarin B.Deltas

Marking another order for Deltamarin’s B.Delta37, the first Chinese shipowner COSCO has ordered four 40,000 DWT Handymax bulk carriers at Tianjin Xingang shipyard in China. In addition to the latest COSCO order, 16 B.Delta37 vessels had previously been ordered at the Tianjin Xingang shipyard, with eight vessels for Louis Dreyfus Armateurs and another eight for M.T. Maritime Management Group (MTMM) / Strategic Shipping Inc. (SSI). The main dimensions of the vessels for COSCO are: length below 180 m and beam 30 m. The service speed at design draught is 14.0 knots.

APM Terminals Leads Productivity Rankings Again

The JOC Group’s latest study of port productivity data, covering the year 2013, retains APM Terminals Yokohama as the world’s leading container terminal in productivity with 163 container moves per vessel hour (MPH). New Hospital Ship to be Classed by LR

Lloyd’s Register (LR) says it is honored to be the classification society of choice for Mercy Ships latest endeavour, a new 36,600 GRT hospital ship scheduled for completion in 2017, and to be named 'Atlantic Mercy'. LR explain that the hospital ship will be designed by the Finnish firm Deltamarin and the vessel will be built at CSIC group’s Tianjin Xingang Shipyard in China. Stena RoRo will manage the actual project construction under the leadership of Per Westling, Managing Director.

Stena RoRo Heads Hospital Ship Construction

International charity Mercy Ships recently signed an agreement for the construction of the world's largest civilian hospital ship tentatively named Atlantic Mercy, and Stena RoRo announced that it is engaged as project manager. The vessel, an investment of more than $100 million, will be built at the Chinese Tianjin Xingang Shipyard, and delivery is expected by July 2017. Atlantic Mercy will serve across the world with approximately 9-10 month-long stops in each port. On board there is room for 154 patients and 600+ crew and medical staff.
