Fairbanks Morse Launches Training and Service Center in Chesapeake

Fairbanks Morse Defense (FMD), a portfolio company of Arcline Investment Management, is launching a 45,000-square-foot training and service center campus in Chesapeake, Va. The defense contractor will move its existing service center from Norfolk, Va., to the Chesapeake campus to add a state-of-the-art training facility and further expand advanced service support for its customers. The move represents a $13 million investment in the community.“We are excited to have Fairbanks Morse Defense as the newest member of our business community,” said Rick West, Mayor of Chesapeake.

Algoma Implements Marine Learning Systems Training Solution

Canadian shipping company Algoma Central Corporation has implemented Marine Learning Systems’ training platform to support employee development and Algoma’s Environmental Compliance Plan. The training management solution allows for on-demand reporting and anytime, anywhere training for safer operations.Algoma’s new system allows employees to access online training on board their vessels, even when internet connectivity is intermittent. This allows both shoreside and on-vessel employees to receive the same training experience, regardless of their location. Modest Tree to Provide Virtual Reality Training for MAN

Martek Launches On-board ECDIS Training

U.K.-based ECDIS manufacturer Martek Marine Ltd. has partnered with German ECDIS training supplier Safebridge GmbH and the ECDIS Training Consortium to deliver ‘Type Specific’ ECDIS training for crew members on-board vessels without internet access. The VTK (vessel training kit) for on-board computer based training without the need for internet connection will allow crew members to carry out their Type Specific Training without the pressure, cost or unreliability of internet connections whilst at sea. Liebherr Simulator (LiSIM) for Operator Training

Liebherr launched LiSIM for operator training on deep foundation equipment and crawler cranes up to 300 t for the first time at Conexpo 2014 in Las Vegas (USA). The simulator is not only available as easy-to-transport containerized solution but also as classroom solution and as space-saving cab solution. Based on original software and hardware the Liebherr simulators increase both productivity and safety by providing a cost-effective and highly efficient operator training solution. Liebherr simulators help trainees to significantly improve their skills in a virtual but realistic environment. The resulting increase in skills allows for safe and productive operation in the real world. For the simulator the LB 28 rotary drilling rig and the LR 1300 crawler crane have been modelled.

BCG Releases PCVM Emulation

Buffalo Computer Graphics (BCG) Inc. announced the addition of another emulation product to its family of Radar Simulators. BCG has completed an emulation of the VisionMaster FT radar – our PCVM. VIKING Saatsea Courses Get Flag Approval

VIKING Saatsea has achieved flag state approval for its STCW on-board training solution with refresher modules according to new STCW 2010 Manila Amendments. The approval of the company’s 24/7, customizable certification management training (CMT) solutions enables shipowners to keep crew certificates up to date while at sea, cutting the number of days needed for land-based training from as many as nine to just one – a major cost and logistics saving – and ensures instant, automatic certification the moment training has been completed. Seagull Maritime said it has secured training center approval from the Panama Maritime Authority, marking the first time that an overseas company has done so following the PMA’s 2014 change of leadership. Simulation Complex for Paraguay Waterway Training

The Transas navigational simulator Navi-Trainer Professional 5000 was installed at the Center for Maritime and River Shipowners (CAFyM) in Asuncion for training crews in tugs operations in the Parana-Paraguay Waterway. The project was carried out in conjunction with VTG S.R.L., the Transas' local representative, which is covering commercial and technical needs of the Paraguayan market for all Transas products. The NTPRO version 5.35 installed at the CAFyM center is an excellent training solution due to its new capabilities for operation with different types of boats and barges in river waters.
