Joel Reid joined Cox Powertrain in April 2015. He holds an EMBA in Business from the University of Chicago, a Master’s Degree in Marine Surveying and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Reid has been instrumental in bringing Cox’s ground-breaking 300hp diesel outboard to market and has worked tirelessly over the last three years to create an enviable global distributor network. Reid is currently focuses his efforts on sales, distribution and support in the US market, which it is predicted to account for approximately 50% of Cox’s diesel outboard sales globally.

Hopkins Named Managing Director at Harris Pye UK

Nigel Hopkins has been appointed Managing Director of Harris Pye UK Ltd based at the company’s headquarters in Llandow in Wales. He joined Harris Pye on May 1 this year working alongside Dave Hayden, the company’s retiring Managing Director at the Harris Pye UK headquarters in Llandow, South Wales before officially taking over from Dave Hayden on October  1, 2017. Following confirmation of the new partnership, FURUNO is now able to market and supply the entire Ocean Signal range of products, which includes its SafeSea portfolio of GMDSS products and its innovative rescueME PLB1. As global leaders in the development and distribution of a range of marine electronics, the Italian specialists will use its strong links in both the commercial shipping and leisure boating markets to strengthen Ocean Signal’s presence in the country.

MHI, Siemens Establish Production Machinery Joint Venture

Today Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) concluded an agreement with Siemens AG of Germany calling for the establishment of a joint-venture company (JV) in steel and metal production machinery effective as of January 2015 subject to regulatory approvals. According to MHI, the move has two aims: expansion of the product line in the steel and metal production machinery business and acceleration of globalization. RBG Appoints New Finance Director

RBG, the leading provider of assess, inspect and repair (AIR) services to the global energy industry that was recently acquired by Stork Technical Services (STS), has appointed Sandeep Sharma as its new finance director. Mr Sharma is responsible for leading RBG’s global financial management, planning, controls and reporting, as the company enters a period of growth and integration with STS. A qualified chartered accountant with an MBA from London Business School, Mr Sharma joins RBG with more than 25 years finance experience and is based at the company’s Aberdeen, UK headquarters.

Wagenborg's Engelsman Supports North P&I Club

The "A" rated North P&I club is at the top table of P&I clubs in terms of financial strength according to chairman Albert Engelsman of Dutch shipping group Wagenborg. Engelsman confirmed that the club’s focus on quality and prudent underwriting had given it, "immense financial strength." He highlighted the fact that free reserves reached a record $312 million at renewal, premium income is projected to reach $350 million in the current policy year and the combined ratio has dropped to 78% - the lowest of any club.

North P&I Club Reserve Advances 30%

Directors of North of England P&I club confirm that the ‘A' rated club emerged substantially stronger from the annual renewal in February 2011, with an underwriting surplus and investment income boosting its free reserve by 30% to US$ 312 million. Chairman Albert Engelsman and fellow board members approved the club's 2010/11 accounts in Cyprus on Friday (20 May 2011). ‘This year has been very successful for North, with a strong underwriting performance and positive investment return resulting in a substantial free reserve to underpin our continued development,' says Engelsman.

Harris Pye Milestone, Two Vessels in Dry Docks

A new milestone has been achieved by the Harris Pye Group (HPG), vessels have been in both the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince of Wales dry docks in Swansea simultaneously – a first for the Group which signed a longer lease on the dry docks in April 2010 following the departure of Saga Pearl II which had been refurbished and refitted at the docks. The two vessels are Visten and Welsh Piper. The dredger, Welsh Piper, has now left having had her biannual special service, and undergone pipe replacement and steelwork (some 20 tonnes of steel were used in all). The Visten remains, she is owned by Canada’s CAI Logistics and is a tanker being converted into a bulk carrier. Work being undertaken includes the installation of two cargo cranes and the redesign of the hatch cover arrangement.

Swansea Dry Docks Open for Business
