BIO-SEA BWTS Developed for U.S. Navy

BIO UV Unveils New BWTS Series

De Nora Acquires Hyde Marine

Alfa Laval's PureBallast 2.0 BWMS Gains US Type Approval

The U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Center issued a ballast water management system (BWMS) type approval certificate to Alfa Laval Tumba AB after a detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval application determined the system met the requirements of 46 CFR 162.060.Most owners of Alfa Laval’s second-generation ballast water treatment systems can now opt to continue operating in U.S. waters, even when their Alternate Management System (AMS) approval expires.The PureBallast 2.0 system generation, launched a decade ago, was developed before the USCG presented its testing regime.

Norwegian Greentech to Supply BWTS for Wison's Fleet

Ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) manufacturer Norwegian Greentech revealed Friday that it has signed an agreement to deliver its systems for shipping company Wilson's fleet of bulk carriers and general cargo vessels.Bergen-headquartered Wilson is Norway's largest shipping company and is among the largest in Europe in its segment, with a fleet currently comprising 120 ships, most of which are owned by the company itself.Norwegian Greentech, part of the Havyard Group, produces BWTS solutions based on filtration and ultraviolet (UV) disinfections.

Naval Fuel-related Assets Protected by Coatings and New Robust Standards

BWM Convention Modification Enter into Force

The amendments to an international treaty aimed at preventing the spread of potentially invasive species in ships’ ballast water came into force yesterday (October 13), the International Maritime Organization (IMO) said.Ships regularly take on sea water, in tanks, to ensure their stability. Known as ballast water, this can contain many aquatic species, including in microscopic or larval form. These can become invasive and harmful if the ballast water is released, unmanaged, in a new location at the end of an ocean voyage.The International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments, 2004 (the BWM Convention)  was adopted by IMO, a specialized agency of the United Nations, to address this problem.The BWM Convention entered into force in 2017.
