Lemcool Joins Eastern Shipbuilding Group

Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. (ESG) announced that Lance C. Lemcool has accepted the position as vice president of commercial sales and marketing. “Lance is a welcome addition to the ESG leadership team”, said Joey D’Isernia, president of Eastern Shipbuilding. “He is versed in nearly all areas of shipbuilding and his experience will be well applied to maintaining our status as a world class builder of government and commercial vessels.”Lemcool, a veteran of the United States Air Force and United States Navy, started his career in the marine industry in 1989.

Australian Navy Commissions Hobart (II) – One in a Million

Royal Australian Navy will commission the first of three new destroyers today (On 23 September). In continuing our reflective stories of previous ships that have carried the name HMAS Hobart, this is the story of Hobart (II). The second ship to bear the name Hobart was one of three Perth class guided missile destroyers built in the United States for the Royal Australian Navy. She was commissioned at the Boston Navy Yard on 18 December 1965 under the command of Captain Guy Griffiths. Following sea trials and exercises in the United States and Canadian waters, Hobart arrived in her namesake city on 1 September 1966. She berthed in her home-port of Sydney for the first time on 7 September 1966.

Allen Naugle Joins HMS Global Maritime

HMS Global Maritime welcomed Allen Naugle as the Director of Safety, Quality and Environment as of December 1, 2014. He will be headquartered in the HMS Global Maritime Corporate office in New Albany, IN. Allen brings 28 years of engineering and leadership experience to the team, including 21 years serving as a United States Air Force Officer. Prior to his position with HMS Global Maritime, Allen was Director of Operations for TEAM Integrated Engineering, Inc., managing on-site environmental compliance, pollution prevention, hazardous materials/waste management, and environmental security support to multiple U.S. Air Force bases as well as management of several branches, staff and budgets. Allen retired as a Lt. Col. from the U.S.

Fishing Boat Fire in Antarctic Killed Three

Fire on board S. A major rescue effort was launched in the Ross Sea in early January when the 51 metre Korean fishing vessel Jeong Woo 2 caught fire. It was the second major incident in Antarctic waters in as many months and involved several Korean fishing vessels, a United States research vessel and a United States Air Force (USAF) aircraft. Experts Named to Evaluate Recommendations of Cruise Industry Safety Review

Washington, D.C. —The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) announced that it has appointed a panel of maritime and safety experts to provide an impartial assessment of the recommendations developed by the Cruise Industry Operational Safety Review, launched in January, 2012. This Panel of Experts will evaluate suggested policy improvements as part of continuous efforts to review and improve safety measures by developing comprehensive best practices for industry-wide implementation and. ultimately, formal submission to the International Maritime Organization, as appropriate. “Our number one priority is the safety of passengers and crew,” said Christine Duffy, President and CEO of CLIA.

OnSSI Adds New Region Managers

OnSSI, manufacturer of open-platform network video management software in the Americas, announced three new positions on the OnSSI sales team. Joining the company are Trevor Newton as Western Region Manager and Steve Kingsbury as Mid-Atlantic Region Manager. This Day in U.S. Coast Guard History – December 27

1968-In October 1968, the United States Air Force requested additional LORAN-C coverage in Southeast Asia and by 27 December 1968 the Coast Guard had received authorization to proceed with the project.  This led to the construction a LORAN station at Tan My, South Vietnam, that supplemented the other LORAN stations in Southeast Asia first established in 1966 under an operation code-named Tight Reign. Derecktor Florida Delivers Gulf Sentry Refit

The Gulf Sentry is one of FWC’s Endurance Class Off-shore Patrol vessels and the largest in the fleet at 85 ft. The vessel was originally named JJ Brown and was manufactured in 1968 for the United States Air Force (USAF) and used as a missile retriever until 1994. The vessel was then used by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and was eventually loaned to FWC, who operated the vessel for the next 14 years for federal fisheries enforcement, search and rescue. It was discovered that the vessel needed extensive repairs to remain operation.

Ed Harlow Joins Bay Diesel

Bay Diesel & Generator has announced the hiring of Ed Harlow to the position of Service Manager at its Richmond, Va. branch. Harlow will oversee the day to day operations relating to generator maintenance, repair, installation, scheduling and overall quality assurance of service.  Mr. Harlow has three decades of experience in the service industry, holding similar positions with call centers and the cable television industry. Hammett Joins Ministry on the River

The Rev. Michael Hammett, the newest addition to the staff of the Ministry on the River team of the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI), said that he wants to make a big poster that reads, “Your chaplain is here for you.” After completing a two-week chaplaincy training program in Houston, TX, the Louisiana native began work last month, overseeing a ministry to workers on America’s inland waterways in the lower Mississippi River region. Hammett has worked inside and outside the walls of churches as an ordained United Methodist Church minister for 25 years.

VT Halmatic has delivered an Arctic 24 rigid inflatable boat (RIB) to the island of Tristan da Cunha. Located in the South Atlantic, approximately 1,740 miles west of Cape Town, Tristan da Cunha is acknowledged as the world's most remote inhabited island. The island supports a thriving community concentrating on fishing and agriculture and the new RIB joins an existing VT Halmatic Pacific 38 RIB. The new Arctic 24 will be used as an additional fisheries patrol boat and fast rescue craft as well as search and rescue and policing duties. Based on a deep V hull form, the Arctic 24 is known as an off-shore RIB that is available in the market place and is capable of operating in the extreme sea states found around the island.

Somers Named VP, General Manager of NorAm

North American Power Systems, Inc. (NorAm), a recently-appointed Master Distributor of Perkins engines in Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico, has appointed Jeffrey Somers as vice president. NorAm, one of 10 Master Distributors for Perkins in North America, supports the sales, service and distribution of Perkins engines and parts through its approximately 100 dealers. Somers was part of team from Warren Equipment Company of Midland, Texas that formed in NorAm in January 2001. Prior to that he served as West Texas Caterpillar’s General Manager- Machine Ship Division. Somers is a business management graduate of the United States Air Force Academy.

AMH Government Services Books Record Year

American Marine Holdings, Inc (AMH) Government Services experienced a record year in sales during 2004, according to Mike Collins, President. AMH, the parent company of Donzi Marine and Pro-Line Boats, formed the Government Services Group in 2003. Mr. Collins stated, ”I am extremely proud of the team we have assembled. John Hotz has been instrumental in our success and was just appointed Vice President of the group”. The past year marked a flurry of activity for the Government Services division, along with many new additions to the team. Mike Page, former United States Navy Lieutenant with the Special Boat Teams, and formally with Boston Whaler and Night Vision Technologies joined the group and now heads up International and Military sales.

Seabulk Appoints New Head Of Offshore Division
