Tindall-Schlicht Named Seaway Administrator

The White House announced President Biden's appointment of former Milwaukee port director, Adam Tindall-Schlicht, as the next Administrator of the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation (GLS). Seaway 7 Wins Transport and Installation Cables Contract Offshore US

Seaway 7 announced that it won a "sizeable" [between $50-150m] contract for the transport and installation of inner-array grid cables on an offshore wind farm project in the U.S.The scope includes the transport and installation of around 160 km of 66 kV subsea power cables and respective cable protection systems.The contract award is subject to client reaching Financial Close by end of 2022. This is the second U.S. project awarded to Seaway 7, after the Coastal Virginia demonstrator project, which was completed in 2020.

US Ports Gear up for 2016 Shipping Season

The St. Lawrence Seaway opened two weeks earlier this shipping season and U.S. ports took advantage of the warm weather to move cargo for their customers. Pacesetter Award for Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor

The top federal official presiding over the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway presented Indiana Governor Mike Pence with its flagship award today in recognition of an increase in international shipping at the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor. Chief executives from the Great Lakes shipping community visited Indianapolis Wednesday to meet with Gov. Pence, Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann as well as public and private leaders from Indiana. During the meetings, U.S. Seaway Administrator Betty Sutton presented the "Robert J. Lewis Pacesetter Award" to Gov. Pence in recognition of the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor's increase in international shipments through the Seaway during the 2014 navigation season. Sutton is the top executive for the Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation, a U.S.

Continued Support for GLSLS

Fifty years after the official opening of the St. Lawrence Seaway by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Canadian and U.S. Seaway corporations remain resolute in their commitment to the sustainability of this bi-national transportation system. A recent U.S. and Canadian Government study concluded that the use of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway (GLSLS) saves consumers $3.6 billion per year in shipping costs. In addition, over 150,000 jobs on both sides of the border are dependent on GLSLS shipping.

Seaway Corp Infrastructure Renewal Funding

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation (SLSDC) will initiate its planned 10-year program this year to modernize the infrastructure of the U.S. portion of the St. Lawrence Seaway, following President Obama’s signing on March 11 of the omnibus appropriations bill to fund the federal government for the remainder of fiscal year 2009. The bill includes a total of $31.8m for the Seaway, which serves the Great Lakes region of North America. The enacted funding includes more than $17m allocated to 17 projects under the Seaway’s Asset Renewal Program (ARP). Great Lakes Execs, IMO Talk Invasive Species

A 22-member binational delegation from the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway System met today in London with Jean-Claude Sainlos, the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Director of Marine Environment. The delegation was lead by Seaway Corporation chiefs, Administrator Albert Jacquez of the U.S. Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation and President and CEO Richard Corfe of the Canadian St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation. The delegation discussed ballast water and aquatic invasive species issues, which is presenting the world’s marine community with a growing environmental challenge. The meeting underscored the importance of the partnership between the government and industry in the Great Lakes St.
