Coast Guard & Maritime Transportation Bill Introduced

Committee leaders today introduced bipartisan legislation that authorizes the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) to carry out its vital missions, improves USCG mission effectiveness, helps replace and modernize aging Coast Guard assets in a cost effective manner, enhances oversight, and reduces inefficiencies to save taxpayer dollars. Additionally, the bill strengthens U.S. maritime transportation, reduces regulatory burdens to create jobs and encourage economic growth and improves the Nation’s competitiveness. Marinette Marine to Build More Coast Guard RB-M's

Marinette Marine Corporation a Fincantieri Company contracted to build an additional 4 Response Boats – Medium (RB-Ms) by the U.S. Coast Guard. With an approximate value of $9,400,000, the new boats are part of a multi-year, Coast Guard contract requiring the construction and delivery of up to 250 RB-Ms at a total contract value of up to $600 million. Delivery of the 4 boats is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2014. This brings the total number of boats under Contract to 170. Marinette Marine builds 50% of the boats at its ACE facility in Green Bay WI.

DHS Review of USCG Mission Performance

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Office of Inspector General (OIG) issued its annual review of the Coast Guard’s mission performance for fiscal year 2008. The report shows that for the seventh consecutive year, the Coast Guard dedicated more resource hours to homeland security missions than to non-homeland security missions. STG Wins $9.5 Million USCG Contract

STG, Inc. (STG) announced that it has won a five-year, $9.5m award from the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Operations Systems Center (OSC). Under this contract, STG will provide Help Desk Support Services for proprietary software products used by the Coast Guard for its varied missions. The OSC develops, maintains, fields and supports most USCG-unique operational applications that directly support USCG’s mission. The Customer Support Division (CSD) directly supports more than 25 of these systems and acts as a single point of contact for support on all OSC systems. For the past nine years, STG has been providing superior help desk services for the users of these mission-critical applications.
