As momentum continues to slowly ramp up in the offshore sector, Horizon Maritime said it has grown its fleet with the addition of another multifunctional offshore support vessels (OSV) from Houston-based Tidewater Marine.The new vessel, Tidewater Enabler, joined Horizon’s fleet in August and is capable of supporting various specialized marine applications, the company said. Euroseas Ltd. The new charters will commence on April 9 for the EM Athens and April 7 for the Manolis. Euroseas typically announces charter arrangements of a year or longer duration. Aegean Marine Petroleum Network and Caribbean Bunkers LLC have signed an agreement to cooperate on bunkering sales, focused around the US Virgin Islands facility at Limetree Bay, St. Croix. Under terms of the agreement, Aegean will market bunker fuels and marine gas oil supplied by Freepoint to customers calling on the Limetree Bay Facility. The agreement calls for future expansion in the region that could lead to adding delivery capability through Aegean's owned fleet. Aegean Marine Petroleum Network has announced the launch of a new service center in Savannah, Georgia, the third largest container port in the United States. The operations in Savannah will be managed by the existing Aegean U.S. team. Under the terms of the agreement with Colonial Terminals, Inc., Aegean will lease tankage from Colonial's oil terminal on the Savannah River. Aegean will acquire and blend a full range of bunker fuel products and has agreed to supply Colonial Oil Industries, Inc. with a range of No. 6 oil products for Colonial's truck delivery business. Aegean has contracted with the Vane Brothers Company to provide barge services in the port.

Euroseas Ltd., owner and operator of drybulk and container carrier vessels and provider of seaborne transportation for drybulk and containerized cargoes, announced the sale of several vessels, as well as the refinancing of a newbuild and six older ships. The company said it has sold M/V Despina P, a 1,932 TEU containership, built in 1990, and of M/V Aristides NP, a 69,268 dwt drybulk carrier built in 1993, to unaffiliated third parties for recycling. M/V Despina P was delivered to its buyers on December 28, 2015. M/V Aristides NP is expected to be delivered to its buyers around January 15, 2016. Euroseas Ltd. an owner and operator of drybulk carriers, container ship and multipurpose vessels and provider of seaborne transportation for dry bulk and containerized cargoes, announced today that it took delivery of M/V Manolis P (ex M/V Bitre Ritscher), a Handysize containership of 20,346 dwt and 1,452 teu, built in 1995 in Germany, which it had previously agreed to acquire, on April 12, 2007. The M/V Manolis P was acquired for approximately $19.15 million and has been secured under a one-year period charter until March 2008 at $13,450 per day.

Quintana Maritime Limited priced its two remaining Kamsarmaxes, Iron Brooke (ex Bulk 16) and Iron Manolis (ex Bulk 17), under its master time charter with Bunge S.A. at an average daily rate of $25,000 per day for 2007. These vessels, which Quintana has agreed to acquire from Metrobulk, are expected to be delivered to Quintana ex yard between March and May 2007. Having priced these two Kamsarmaxes, Quintana Maritime has fixed the rates for all seventeen vessels it has acquired or has agreed to acquire from Metrobulk. For 2007, seven Kamsarmaxes and two Panamaxes have been fixed at an average daily rate of $23,000, five Kamsarmaxes have been fixed at an average daily rate of $20,000 and two Kamsarmaxes have been fixed at an average daily rate of $25,000.

Quintana Maritime Limited announced that it secured seven Kamsarmaxes and two Panamaxes, which were recently acquired or are set to be acquired from Metrobulk, under its master time charter with Bunge S.A. for 2007 at an average daily rate of approximately $23,000 per day. The newly fixed Kamsarmaxes are Iron Bradyn (ex Bulk 4), Iron Kalypso (ex Bulk 6), Ore Hansa (ex Bulk 7), Santa Barbara (ex Bulk 8), Iron Elisabeth (ex Bulk 9), Coal Hunter (ex Bulk 14), and Coal Gypsy (ex Bulk 12), and the newly fixed Panamaxes are Grain Express (ex Bulk 1) and Iron Knight (ex Bulk 2). All nine of these vessels, as well as the five vessels previously fixed, are expected to be delivered by year-end 2006, other than Iron Lindrew (ex Bulk 15), which is expected to be delivered in January 2007.

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is to collaborate in efforts to mount a coordinated response from UN agencies and other concerned parties, including regional Governments, to the oil spill currently affecting the coastal and marine environments of Lebanon and Syria. The spill, estimated to be one of the largest ever to affect the Mediterranean, follows an incident in mid-July in which an oil storage unit at a power plant in Jiyyeh, 30 km south of Beirut, sustained bombing damage during the current conflict. Seamen decided on Feb. 21 to extend their strike action, creating supply problems to Greece’s islands while also isolating passengers in different parts of the country. Ferries have been moored since Feb. 16 after workers walked off the job in a bid to push ahead with their economic demands, which include higher pensions and measures to tackle unemployment in their sector. The Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) announced that the strike will now run through to 6.00 a.m. on Feb. 22. Merchant Marine Minister Manolis Kelafoyiannis met with the workers yesterday but failed to convince them to go back to work. The Kathimerini reported the strike is having a crippling effect on farmers as hundreds of trucks transporting fresh produce remain stuck at the country’s ports.
