Vessel Christened at Bach Dang Shipyard
Bach Dang Shipyard Corporation, an affiliate of the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (Vinashin), on September 18 christened the 22,500-ton VTC Dragon. The vessel was later handed over to the Viet Nam Sea Transport and Chartering Company. The ship, 502-ft. long and 85.3 ft. wide, is equipped with a 6,253 kW engine imported from Japan and was built under the supervision of Japan's NK company. VTC Dragon is the third of its kind built to date under a contract of eight such vessels for subsidiaries of the Viet Nam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines). So far, the ships are the largest to be built by the Bach Dang Shipyard. The shipyard is also carrying out a contract to build ships of 4,900 tons for an Italian owner and a 17,500-ton ship for a Republic of Korea owned company.
Vinashin to Expand Song Chanh Shipyard
Vinashin has invested 93.7m in expanding Song Chanh shipyard in the northern coastal province of Quang Ninh. The shipyard will be upgraded to be capable of building ships up to 20,000 tons by 2010 and generate jobs for 2,000 people. Source: Vietnam Agency
Vinashin Posts Revenues
According to reports, Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin) reported an output value of over $567m and revenues of over $351m in the first nine months of 2006. The figures represented year-on-year increases of 40.7 percent and 73.3 percent respectively. In the period, Vinashin signed nearly $5b in contracts to build ships for partners from Japan, Germany, England, Poland and Israel. The corporation is under negotiations with Japanese and German partners, such as Kanematsu, Sojist and Mitsubishi, to build cargo vessels with capacities ranging from 8,700 tonnes to 56,300 tonnes and 900-1,100 TEU container ships. It is also cooperating with the Viet Nam Oil and Gas Corporation (Petro Viet Nam) to build three 100,000 tonne oil tankers.
Pha Rung Builds its Largest Cargo Vessel
The Pha Rung Shipyard in the northern port city of Hai Phong on August 15 began work on its largest-ever cargo ship of 34,000 DWT and an oil tanker of 6,500 DWT. As part of Pha Rung's contract to build 8 cargo ships for Graig Invetments of the UK, the 34,000 DWT ship, worth 26.5 million USD, is designed utilising state-of-art technology and will meet all international conventions on maritime operation. This is the most modern and largest ship that Pha Rung, a subsidiary of the Viet Nam Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (Vinashin), has ever built, a company executive said, adding that the ship is expected to be handed over to its owner in 18 months.
SHINEC Builds Interiors for RAON
The Shipbuilding Joint Stock Company (SHINEC) has won a $200,000 contract to build the interiors for five ships owned by the RAON group of the Czech Republic. The work, covering wooden wall and floor planks, furniture, cupboards and lounge bars, is expected to last through the end of the year. The conversion of five ships owned by RAON into luxurious “floating hotels” is part of the largest-ever ship engineering project by the Republic of Czech, under the general European countries’ scheme to boost the country’s sea transport services and cruise travelling. The ships, after being upgraded, will become GOLFBOATs, opulent ships designed as 34-room hotels, each with modern amenities such as golf clubs and shops, indoor golf facilities, swimming pools and restaurants.
