Huntington Ingalls Industries inform that its Newport News Shipbuilding division joined elected officials and business and community leaders to dedicate the 12th home shipyard volunteers have constructed in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg. Among the well-wishers who welcomed Jeremiah and Crystal Lamberty and their children to their new home were Rep. Bobby Scott; State Sen. John Miller; Cathy McQuade, president-elect, Habitat for Humanity board of directors; Karen Joyner, CEO, Virginia Peninsula Food Bank; and Michael Lee, vice president, United Steelworkers Local 8888. Carolyn Pittman, Newport News Shipbuilding's vice president and chief financial officer, spoke on behalf of the shipyard.

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced that its Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division lent support to the community by participating in three area charitable events. Shipbuilders donated nearly 20,000 school supplies to benefit an estimated 1,000 area students, contributed $2 million to the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula, and recently delivered more than 20 metric tons of non-perishable food--five tons heavier than an anchor on the aircraft carrier Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78)--to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank.

Newport News Shipbuilding employees donate food for the poor at Christmas, filling offices from desk to door. Huntington Ingalls Industries' Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division donated more than $23,500 and more than 31,000 pounds of non-perishable food to the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank during the shipyard's annual holiday food drive. Huntington Ingalls Industries donate US$ 2.1-million to the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula. The donation is a combined contribution from the HII corporate office and its participating employees, as well as donations made by the company's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division and its participating employees. HII's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division donates  more than 20,000 school supplies to assist about 1,000 area students.
