Role of ScanFish ROTV in Waste Water Monitoring Surveys

All populated coastlines share a variety of pollution-related challenges. Those municipalities in the USA who engage in the discharge of waste water through ocean outfalls are subject to state and federal regulations requiring them to monitor the quality of the water near those structures and the marine environment beyond them. The City of San Diego in southern California is one such municipality. With two vessels and a wide array of oceanographic sensors, they continually inspect and report on two waste water outfalls; Point Loma Ocean Outfall (PLOO) near the mouth of San Diego Bay and South Bay Ocean Outfall (SBOO) near the US/Mexico border.

Kapellskär Port All set to Receive Biggest Vessel

The Port of Kapellskär, Sweden, is being rebuilt to be able to accommodate larger vessels and meet market demands for current and future freight volumes. Now that the new 245 metre-long pier is completed, the port has two new modern quay-berths. The new pier has been operational from yesterday (13th June). The entire port is expected to be completed before the end of 2016, following three years of construction work. “It feels really good now that the new pier is ready and we can see the results of what we have worked on for so many years,” says Tobias Kednert, Project Manager for the Port of Kapellskär Development Project. “As vessel sizes are increasing, we decided to install some of Europe’s biggest ramps on the pier, to be able to welcome even the next generation of vessels.

As part of an ongoing cooperation with Onboard NAPA Ltd., Knud E. Hansen USA has provided CFD analysis covering a large range of trim/draft/speed conditions for numerous ship owners to be used in the Onboard Napa Loading Computer-Optifloat Module. Optifloat is a tool developed by Onboard NAPA Ltd, which provides the vessel crew with a recommended optimal floating position for voyage planning.
