Port of New York/New Jersey Reports Cargo Record

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that annual cargo volumes in the port set a new record in 2014, surpassing the previous record set in 2012. The port said it handled 3,342,286 cargo containers in 2014, an increase of 5.4 percent over the previous year and 4.1 percent more than in 2012, when the previous annual record was established. The record volumes allowed the port to maintain its position as the busiest on the East Coast with nearly 30 percent of the total market share, the port authority noted.

Expo Attracts Top Officials

Top security and maritime officials from more than 22 countries will come together in New York next week to explore solutions for improving the security of international maritime trade in the United States and abroad. Waterfront Commission Grants Joint-Recommendation

The Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor announced that it granted the joint-recommendation of the New York Shipping Association-International Longshoremen's Association Contract Board which requested that the Commission accept applications from 400 persons for inclusion in the Longshoremen's Register and also that the Commission accept applications for the replacement of up to 415 potential retirees for the period of October 1, 2002 to September 30, 2003. Waterfront Commission Schedules Public Hearing

The Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor announced today that it has scheduled a public hearing to commence on December 13, 2002 to consider the joint-recommendation of the New York Shipping Association-International Longshoremen's Association Contract Board (Contract Board) requesting the Commission to accept applications from 400 persons for inclusion in the Longshoremen's Register. The hearing will be held in the Commission's Hearing Room at 39 Broadway, 4th Floor, New York, New York at 10:00 A.M. In 1999, the States of New York and New Jersey amended the Waterfront Commission Act to provide for a more streamlined and efficient manner of bringing a sufficient number of dockworkers into the labor force to meet the demand for such labor.
