The Maritime Person of the Year
The Massachusetts Maritime Academyâs annual salute to âthe person of the yearâ this year spotlights McAllister Towing and Transportation Co. and its leadership team. Set for September 10, 2015, MMAâs Salute to the Maritime Person of the Year â benefiting the MMA Cadet Scholarship Fund â most fittingly highlights the McAllister family, specifically Brian McAllister, Buckley McAllister and Eric McAllister. Fresh off its celebration of 150 years in business, McAllister Towing & Transportationâs marine transportation group collectively operates a fleet of more than 75 tugboats, crew boats and barges in 17 locations along the U.S. East Coast from Portland, ME to San Juan, PR. In terms of the firmâs impact on the maritime industry, they represent much more than that.
NY Senator Calls for Enhanced Security
Senator Schumer is calling for the installation of screening for persons disembarking from passenger ships in New York City. He wants the US-VISIT program to be instituted for such ships, including use of âfingerscannersâ. US Senator Charles E. Schumer revealed that while Federal officials are pushing to close Madison Square Garden and the James A. Farley Post Office during the summer's Republican National Convention, they refuse to install their highly-touted new "fingerscanners" at Manhattan's Passenger Ship Terminal to check foreign visitors against terrorist watch lists, even though the Terminal is jut blocks away from the Convention.
