Nobiskrug Inks Deal to Build Superyacht “Black Shark”

Her striking design makes “Black Shark” one of the most interesting superyacht projects at present. Nobiskrug and the owner have signed the contract for the continued construction of the vessel (new build project 793). With the third order since the economic restart the Rendsburg shipyard stays on its successful course since the takeover by Tennor Group. Investor Lars Windhorst, who was significantly involved in the negotiations for the “Black Shark”, emphasizes that this success is proof of Nobiskrug’s capabilities.

Fincantieri Begins Building First Ship for MSC's Explora Journeys

Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri has begun building the first of four new ships on order for MSC Group's new luxury cruise brand Explora Journeys.Built at Fincantieri shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy, the new cruise ship Explora I is scheduled to set sail in 2023, followed by its sister ships slated to be delivered in 2024, 2025 and 2026.The design incorporates provision for battery storage allowing future hybrid power generation, as well as the latest selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, enabling a reduction of nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by 90%.

Fincantieri Fits New Midsection in Star Breeze

The most complex cruise ship lengthening ever undertaken is clipping along at Fincantieri’s Palermo yard.The final welding cut to Windstar Cruises’ Star Breeze was completed and  the ship’s 25.6-meter/84-foot prefabricated midsection was glided into place between the two halves in the drydock, an operation that took just half an hour.Overnight, Shipyard crews at Fincantieri Palermo had carefully split the ship, pulling the 4,000-ton bow forward centimeter by centimeter while a new 25.6-meter midsection waited on shiny black rollers at the far end of the 370-meter pit.The first Windstar ship to emerge from this transformation, Star Breeze…

Windstar Cuts Steel for Second Star-class Ship from Fincantieri

esterday at Fincantieri’s shipyard, in Palermo, Italy, Christopher Prelog, Vice President of Fleet Operations for Seattle-based Windstar Cruises, activated the torch to make the first cut in the new steel that will become the newly constructed mid-section of the company’s new ship MS Star Legend. This is the second of three new mid-ship sections being designed and constructed as part of Windstar’s $250 million Star Plus Initiative which aimsto expand and transform the line’s three Star-class vessels.“This is a momentous day for Windstar as we reach another major milestone,” said Prelog.

Following a successful keel laying ceremony on February 20, 2019, NOBISKRUG has announced that 77-meter M/Y Black Shark is taking shape and remains on track to meet its scheduled delivery in spring 2021.Taking place at NOBISKRUG’s keel laying premises in Kiel, the ceremony also served as the yard’s first event of the year. Holger Kahl, Managing Director of NOBISKRUG, delivered a warm welcome speech to the guests, followed by an address by Evgeniy Kochman, Chief Executive of Imperial.

'Harmony of the Seas' to be World's Largest Cruise Ship

Royal Caribbean International will outdo itself again when it launches MV Harmony of the Seas in April 2016 which shall officially become the world’s largest cruise ship. The line says the third vessel in its Oasis class series, to be called Harmony of the Seas, will measure 227,000 tons, eclipsing its two record-size sisters by more than 1,700 tons. Royal Caribbean confirmed that a cruise ship it has on order for delivery in 2016 will be the largest ever built. Oceanco Delivers First Superyacht of 2015

Oceanco delivered the first superyacht of 2015 today, the 291-foot (89 meter) INFINITY. Built under the code name Y710, the yacht features an exterior design by Espen Øino and an interior design by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design and David Kleinberg Design Associates. INFINITY is a go-anywhere yacht powered by  twin 4,828hp / 3,600kW MTU engines capable of reaching speeds of 20 knots. The yacht has a master suite that includes a private exterior deck and whirlpool, and can also accommodate 10 guests in 6 guest suites, including 2 VIP cabins.

Ohio Governor Freezes State's Clean Energy Law

Ohio Governor John Kasich on Friday signed legislation to freeze a six-year old law that required utilities to sell increasing amounts of green energy, making the state the first in the country to roll back a clean energy mandate. Kasich, a Republican mentioned as a possible contender for the 2016 presidential race, signed Senate Bill 310, which passed in the state's legislature with strong support from some of Ohio's biggest industrial power users, such as Alcoa, and the Ohio Chamber of Commerce. A number of other companies with operations in the state, including Honda Motor, Honeywell and Whirlpool , opposed the freeze, and have said it will risk new jobs in the state. The original 2008 Ohio law called on utilities to sell more green power each year.

HAL's Volendam To Add 21 Lanai Staterooms, Mix Bar Area

When Holland America Line’s ms Volendam completes dry-dock in December 2014, the ship will feature 21 new exclusive lanai staterooms, the contemporary bar area Mix and updated bathrooms in all suites and select other stateroom categories. With the conversion of existing outside staterooms to the new lanai accommodations, Volendam’s guest capacity of 1,432 will not change. The unique lanai accommodations feature large sliding-glass doors with direct access to the Lower Promenade wrap-around teak walking deck. Each lanai stateroom includes reserved deck chairs, and the sliding-glass doors have a one-way mirrored coating to ensure privacy. Holland America Line ships already outfitted with lanai staterooms are ms Maasdam, ms Rotterdam and ms Veendam.

Coast Guard, Park Police, Sign Niagara Operational Agreement

The Coast Guard and the New York State Park Police have formally signed a cooperative agreement to clarify agency roles for operations in the Niagara Falls River. This historic cooperative agreement spells out the roles each agency will play during future operations between Niagara Falls and the whirlpool in the Niagara River gorge. Capt. Brian Roche, commander of Coast Guard Sector Buffalo, and Maj. David A. Page, commanding officer of the NYSPP Western Region, entered into the cooperative agreement to further enhance coordination of maritime incidents along the Niagara River.

Cruise Ship Hot-Tubbing Literally May Cost an Arm & a Leg

A US District Court Class action alleges flesh-eating bacteria lurking In cruise lines' hot tubs. Tab Lankford, who was cruising on the ship Carnival Paradise on December 17, 2011, claims he contracted "hot tub folliculitis" from a Carnival whirlpool. The severe infection nearly cost him his leg. "The entire leg turned black and they wanted to amputate," said his attorney, John Billera. After a week in the hospital and $70,000 in medical bills later, Mr. Lankford's leg was saved, but he still bears the scars from the flesh-eating infection. When Mr. Lankford contacted Carnival regarding his infection, he claims a guest relations specialist told him that there were more than fifty other passengers on the same cruise who came down with the same illness from using the hot tubs.

Holland America Debuts Pool Concept

When Holland America Line's ms Statendam, ms Maasdam, ms Ryndam, ms Veendam and ms Rotterdam emerge from nearly month-long dry docks with an additional $200m in investments, one of the highlights will be The Retreat, a new resort-style pool area on the aft of the Lido deck. The main focus of the new pool experience will be a shallow area with forty-four lounge chairs where guests can relax and dip their fingers and toes in the water. Built-in benches create another place for guests to relax and dangle their legs in the refreshing water.
