Port of New Orleans Board Elects Kearney as Chairman

The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans has elected Mr. Michael W. Kearney chairman. Mr. Kearney represents Orleans Parish and joined the Board in December of 2012 when he was appointed by former Gov. Bobby Jindal. He succeeds Mr. William T. Bergeron, whose term as chairman expired this month. Mr. Bergeron will continue to serve as a commissioner. In addition, the Board elected Mr. Robert R. Barkerding vice chairman and Mr. Laney T. Port of New Orleans' Board of Commissioners Elects William T. Bergeron Chairman; Michael W. Kearney Elected Vice Chair, Robert Barkerding Jr. The Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans today elected William T. Bergeron chairman. Bergeron represents St. Bernard Parish and joined the Board in November of 2012 when he was appointed by Gov. Bobby Jindal. He succeeds Scott H. Cooper, whose term as chairman expired this month. Cooper will continue to serve as a commissioner. In addition, Michael W. Kearney was elected vice chairman and Robert R. Barkerding, Jr. as its secretary-treasurer.

Chouest Appointed to Port of New Orleans Board

Governor Bobby Jindal appointed south Louisiana businessman and entrepreneur Laney J. Chouest to the Board of the Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans. Chouest, who was sworn in during today’s Board meeting, will serve a five-year term, succeeding Joseph F. Toomy, one of two Jefferson Parish representatives on the regional Board that governs Port operations in Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard parishes. A native of Galliano, La. and resident of New Orleans, Chouest is the owner and developer of NOLA Motorsports Park in Avondale, La.

Gulf Coast Dockside Operations and Assets acquired by Associated Terminals

Associated Terminals recently expanded its stevedoring and material handling operations on the lower Mississippi River with its acquisition of substantially all of the assets of Gulf Coast Dockside, Inc., along with a substantial interest in Bulk Material Transfer, Inc. Gulf Coast Dockside is a stevedoring company whose primary operations are located in Chalmette, LA, near milepost 90.5 of the lower Mississippi River. The company’s assets include three high capacity floating cranes and all of the attachments and equipment related to the stevedoring operation. Associated also assumes all of the existing contractual stevedoring obligations. Bulk Material Transfer operates a bulk material handling facility at the Chalmette slip within the St. Bernard Port, Harbor and Terminal District.

Bergeron Acquires Bulk Material Transfer

The Bergeron Group has purchasd Bulk Material Transfer, Inc. (BMT), a long-time operator of dock intermodal bulkhandling facilities at the Chalmette Slip, mile post 90.5, on the Mississippi River. "The excellent location and reputation of BMT will be an important addition to our metro New Orleans stevedoring operations," said William T. Bergeron, president. The experienced workforce and seasoned management team will remain in place, said Bergeron. The purchase includes George E, a barge-mounted Lima 2400 Series pedestal-mounted crane suitable for stevedoring bulk cargo between vessels and barges or vessel and dock.
