Coatings Giant Hempel Buys Wattyl Australia and New Zealand
Coatings manufacturer Hempel has completed the acquisition of Wattyl Australia and New Zealand, increasing its footprint in Australia and New Zealand.On 18 February 2021, Hempel A/S signed an agreement to acquire leading paint and coatings manufacturer Wattyl Australia and New Zealand from The Sherwin-Williams Company, the world’s largest paint and coatings company and headquartered in the United States.Hempel received formal customary approval from the relevant authorities in Australia and New Zealand and the acquisition was closed on 31 March.
Sherwin-Williams Acquires Fire Protection Coatings Company
One of the premiere industrial fire protection coatings companies in the world, Leighs Paints, has become part of The Sherwin-Williams Company. The acquisition was announced July 6, and significantly enhances the product portfolio of the company’s Protective & Marine business. Leighs Paints manufactures a comprehensive line of intumescent Passive Fire Protection products for the hydrocarbon market. Its FIRETEX® brand has been used on more than 400 projects around the world protecting offshore platforms, refineries and chemical plants. “Leighs has a reputation for high quality products and expertise which will complement our current product line, making it possible to offer a comprehensive portfolio to our customers globally,” said Narsi Bodapati, Vice President of Marketing.
Sherwin-Williams Acquires Euronavy
The Sherwin-Williams Company (NYSE: SHW) announced it has closed a definitive agreement to acquire Euronavy-Tintas Maritimas e Industriais S.A. of Portugal. Headquartered in Lisbon, Portugal, Euronavy is an producer of marine and protective coatings applied to ships, off shore platforms, storage tanks, steel, concrete, and flooring. Euronavy became the first company in the world to receive approval for a solvent-free epoxy coating system. Groundbreaking R&D has also produced pioneering products for underwater application. Founded in 1981, Euronavy has 40 employees across its manufacturing and distribution platform with sales of less than $25m. Cove Point LNG Proposal Under Review
The Coast Guard concluded two days of meetings today with local, state and federal officials as part of its ongoing review to help evaluate the suitability of the Chesapeake Bay for importing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) aboard tankships. The Coast Guard Captain of the Port (COTP) Baltimore received a letter of intent to resume LNG import operations from the Williams Company at its Cove Point facility in Calvert County, Md., last October. If approved, LNG import operations will involve moving LNG in tankships on the middle and lower Chesapeake Bay to Cove Point where the cargo will be handled and off-loaded at the company’s waterside facility. Under federal regulation (33 CFR Part 127.009), the COTP is required to evaluate the suitability of the Bay for conducting LNG operations.
Signal Awarded TARZAN CLASS
Signal International, L.L.C. signed a contract with LeTourneau, Inc. to build a TARZAN CLASS jackup drill rig. LeTourneau is procuring the rig, the fourth TARZAN CLASS rig built for Rowan Companies, Inc., its parent corporation. Under the terms of the contract, LeTourneau will provide a license to Signal International and furnish the engineering and component kit for the elevating system, including, 445’ leg length. LeTourneau Ellis Williams Company, Inc., also a subsidiary of Rowan Companies Inc., will provide the drilling equipment package. Dick Marler, President and CEO of Signal, said the TARZAN CLASS rig will be built at Signal’s Texas facility in Orange, Texas. Delivery will be third quarter 2007. Signal International, LLC.
