Partners Awarded $50 Million to Create Clean Hydrogen Cluster in South Louisiana

The U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) earlier this month awarded a $50 million federal grant to H2theFuture, a 25-organization partnership aiming to develop a new energy cluster in South Louisiana, spanning the clean hydrogen life cycle, from R&D at Louisiana universities, to an end-use project at the Port of South Louisiana.The award is one of 21 projects from around the country chosen from 529 applicants that were funded by a $1 billion appropriation from the American Rescue Plan Act…

SUNY Maritime College Names ABS Chairs

The State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College has selected Dr. Richard Burke and Dr. Christopher Clott as its inaugural ABS chairs following a comprehensive search that drew an expansive range of applicants, the college announced today. Made possible through the financial support of ABS (formerly the American Bureau of Shipping), which provided an endowment of $3 million dollars, the positions aim to allow SUNY Maritime to remain “first and foremost” in the maritime education and training field.

Nixon Named Director of R.I. Sea Grant

Earlier this month, Dennis Nixon was named director of the Rhode Island Sea Grant, one of 32 programs that make up the National Sea Grant College Program, which is administered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Nixon spends much of his life near the ocean. As a longtime Jamestown resident, Nixon is never more than minutes away from Narragansett Bay. As associate dean of the University of Rhode Island’s Graduate School of Oceanography, he is just as close to the waves when he’s in his office. Nixon has been teaching at the University of Rhode Island for 37 years.

New Leadership Takes Helm at Port of Indiana

The Ports of Indiana named Rick Heimann Port Director for the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor effective January 16. Heimann recently served as Sourcing Manager, specializing in rail and water transportation, for ArcelorMittal USA in East Chicago. “The opportunity to lead the Port of Indiana-Burns Harbor is an exciting endeavor,” said Heimann. Prior to joining ArcelorMittal USA, Heimann served as Transportation Manager for AK Steel and Sales Manager for barge line, The Ohio River Co. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Joseph’s College and a master’s degree from Xavier University, also in business administration. Heimann and his wife, Debbie, live in Schererville, Indiana.

Trinity Marine Products Announces New Executive Vice President

Trinity Industries, Inc. today announced Robert P. Herre has been named Executive Vice President of Trinity Marine Products, Inc., a subsidiary of Trinity Industries, Inc. Herre is a 25-year veteran of both the marine and inland shipbuilding industries, trained and experienced in engineering, operations and general management. Most recently, Herre served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Jeffboat LLC, a subsidiary of American Commercial Lines, LLC. "I'm extremely pleased to have someone of Bob's caliber joining the company," said Paul Mauer, President of Trinity Marine. "His background and experience enhance our existing management team, providing a unique perspective from within the industry.

Seabulk International Appoints CFO

Seabulk International, Inc. announced the election of Vincent J. deSostoa as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately. deSostoa, who most recently served as President and Chief Financial Officer of Zeosoft Corporation, will report directly to Seabulk's President and Chief Executive Officer, Gerhard E. Kurz. He will be responsible for all of the Company's financing activities, including its relations with investment bankers and lending institutions, as well as for the financial reporting function, risk management and information systems.
