Crew Transfer Vessel Arrives in Japan to Serve Ishikari Bay New Port Offshore Wind Project

A new crew transfer vessel (CTV) for the Ishikari Bay New Port offshore wind farm in Hokkaido Prefecture arrived in Japan from Singapore on April 19, Japan's NYK has informed. The vessel is named “Rera As.”After completing its sea trials, the vessel was delivered in Singapore and transported to Honmoku Pier in Yokohama port by Kifune, a heavy-lift carrier operated by NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd. After being discharged, the crew transfer vessel was towed to the Oppama factory of Keihin Dock Co. Ltd.

Mike Noone, President of TOTE Maritime Puerto Rico, LLC is being promoted to a new role as the company’s chief operating officer for TOTE Group. Kevin D. NYK Provides Free Transport for Ginkgo Saplings

Japanese shipping giant Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) Group has provided support to a project being conducted by maritime volunteers in the town of Pembroke, which is south of Wales, to return ginkgo saplings linked to Admiral Togo, one of Japan’s greatest naval heroes.Yusen Logistics Co. Ltd. has provided free transport from Britain, and a ceremony for receiving the saplings was held at the Hiroshima Botanical Garden in Japan on December 24.In the 1870s, the Japanese government donated the ginkgo tree to Britain, where Togo was furthering his naval studies, and the tree was planted in the yard of his dormitory. Tim Nolan has been named the next president and CEO of U.S. domestic ocean carrier TOTE Inc., parent company Saltchuk announced today. NYK, YLK Hold Joint Training Program

From October 19 to 23, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha and Yusen Logistics Co. Ltd. jointly conducted their 2015 Global NYK/YLK Week, a training program targeting NYK and YLK staff from offices around the world. Twenty-five overseas staff members — 12 from NYK and 13 from YLK — were nominated from the Group’s global business bases to attend the program along with two Japanese staff members from each company’s headquarters in Tokyo. This training program has been jointly held by NYK and YLK since 2012 to deepen the interchange among the participants across national, division, and company boundaries and further strengthen links and networks within the Group.

DHL Expects Immunity in Price Fixing Investigation

Deutsche Post expects its DHL forwarding business to be granted immunity from prosecution and fines by Singapore antitrust authorities, who are investigating 11 companies for alleged price fixing, the German logistics company said. The Competition Commission of Singapore (CCS) said this month it was investigating 11 freight forwarding companies, including Deutsche Post unit DHL Global Forwarding, for alleged price-fixing of air freight forwarding services. Deutsche Post told Reuters last week that the probe related to pricing and surcharges in the forwarding industry from 2002 to 2007. Forwarders buy cargo space from airlines, shippers and truckers and bundle shipments for customers, such as carmakers, high-tech firms and agriculture firms.

Reporting to Ports America Stevedoring President Tom Perdue, Birnbaum responsibilities include coordinating and driving corporate revenue and growth as well as structuring pricing and yield management processes. Thailand to LA Container Shipment Service

Yusen Logistics' new service from Thailand to Los Angeles features weekly departures as they expand in the LCL and Full Container Load (FCL) market. The service features weekly departures from Laem Chabang, Thailand every Sunday to arrive in Los Angeles 17 days later. Supported by their strong domestic US transportation network and Inland Point Intermodal (IPI) service, Yusen Logistics is able to deliver shipments to all major inland destinations in the US. “Over the past six months we have grown our LCL product in direct response to our customer’s requests,” said Joseph Goldman, Director of Operations at Yusen Logistics. “We have expanded into Taiwan, Malaysia, and Vietnam, and are seeing a really positive market response.
