Klein Appointed Chairman, CEO of ZF Friedrichshafen

Dr. Holger Klein, Member of the Board of Management responsible for the Asia-Pacific region, Car Chassis Technology Division, Aftermarket and Production, will succeed Wolf-Henning Scheider as Chairman and CEO of ZF Friedrichshafen AG at the end of 2022.At the same time, Dr. Peter Laier will join the Board of Management to lead the Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) and Industrial Technology divisions succeeding Wilhelm Rehm. ZF Chief Financial Officer Dr. Konstantin Sauer will leave the company by the end of 2022 after many years of service.

ZF Appoints New Board Members

ZF Friedrichshafen AG's Supervisory Board has appointed Sabine Jaskula and Dr. Holger Klein to the company's Board of Management.Jaskula, an experienced HR manager and lawyer, will be responsible for Corporate HR and Legal functions from latest January 1, 2019. In this function, she will also be in charge of compliance. Dr. Klein has been appointed to ZF's Board of Management with effect from October 1, 2018. His responsibilities will include Car Chassis Technology and Aftermarket (service and parts business).

ZF CEO Sommer Steps Down

ZF Friedrichshafen AG chief executive officer Dr. Stefan Sommer has left the company after five years at the head. Finance Board Member and CEO Deputy Representative, Dr. Konstantin Sauer, will fill in as CEO on an interim basis. The news follows the company's recent appointment of Dr.-Ing. Franz-Josef Paefgen as its new chairman.

Paefgen Named Chairman of ZF's Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board of ZF Friedrichshafen AG appointed Dr.-Ing. Franz-Josef Paefgen as its new chairman, at an extraordinary meeting on December 4, 2017. Paefgen, a member of the Supervisory Board since 2008, will succeed Prof. Dr. Giorgio Behr. Since 1976, Paefgen has held various managerial positions in the automotive industry. From 1995 until 2002, he was member of the Board of Audi AG, and from 1997, he was chairman of the Board of Management. From March 2002, he was responsible for the Bentley brand, and as chief representative of Volkswagen AG, was also responsible for Volkswagen's Corporate Research and Motorsports. Between 2003 and 2005, Paefgen was head of Bugatti Engineering GmbH. From 2007 up to his retirement in 2011, he was president of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S.

Rolls-Royce, ZF Strengthen Propulsion Ties

An agreement between ZF Friedrichshafen AG and Rolls-Royce Power Systems will see the two companies collaborate even more closely on the development, marketing, sales and service of marine propulsion systems. The combination of MTU engines from Rolls-Royce Power Systems and marine transmissions from ZF have long been a match for many commercial ships and yachts. Now, the two companies plan to work together even more intensively to develop new technologies and products to help ensure clients are provided with fully optimized propulsion solutions.

ZF Turns 100

ZF Friedrichshafen AG is celebrating its centennial in 2015. Founded in the city of Friedrichshafen at Lake Constance in 1915 as “Zahnradfabrik GmbH,” the company developed from an aviation specialist with regional roots to an international technology company active on the global mobility markets, including maritime. MR recently visited with Daniel Härter, Vice President Industrial Technology, Head of Business Unit Marine Propulsion Systems, who took over responsibility for ZF Marine as of September 1, 2014. ZF is obviously large and diverse across many markets.

Schwarz Joins ZF Marine North America

ZF Marine Propulsion Systems Miramar LLC, the North American arm of ZF Friedrichshafen AG Marine Propulsion Systems, announced that Ed Schwarz has joined the team as Business Development Manager for the Commercial and Fast Craft product line in North America. In his new role, Ed will be responsible for working closely with both the sales and aftermarket organizations to develop strategies that best align ZF’s products with industry needs. A graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy, King’s Point, Schwarz comes to ZF with over 15 years of experience in the maritime community.

ZF Establishes Joint Venture in China

At the headquarters of ZF Friedrichshafen AG, the management of ZF and of Nanjing Highspeed & Accurate Gear (Group) Co. Ltd. (NGC) signed a contract to establish the ZF Nanjing Marine Propulsion Co. Ltd. (ZF-NMP). The company will be based in Nanjing, P.R. China, owned 60 percent by ZF (China) Investment Co. Ltd., Shanghai (a subsidiary of ZF Friedrichshafen AG) and 40 percent by NGC. The new company will assemble and market ZF Marine’s range of heavy duty transmissions for application in workboats and ocean-going commercial vessels powered by engines up to 18,500 hp. The ZF-NMP factory building is currently under construction and assembly of transmissions will commence in the near future, after all governmental permissions have been received.
