Costamare Names Peter Lund Chief Commercial Officer

Shipowner Costamare has appointed Peter Lund as Chief Commercial Officer. He is expected to take up his position with Costamare in October 2023.Lund is currently Vice President, Head of Chartering of A.P. Moller-Maersk in Copenhagen, and has worked for a total of 24 years in the A.P. Outgoing Ørsted CEO Poulsen to Join AP Moller

Henrik Poulsen, CEO of offshore wind giant Ørsted, who recently announced his decision to step down after eight years with the firm, will join Denmark's maritime giant AP Moller Holding.The A.P. Moller Group comprises of A.P. Moller - Maersk, Danske Bank, Maersk Drilling, Maersk Tankers, Maersk Product Tankers, KK Wind Solutions and A.P. Moller Capital. A.P. Moller Holding is the parent company of the Group.Poulsen will join AP Moller Holding (APMH) as a Senior Advisor and member of its Investment Committee on February 1, 2021.

Frontline CEO Macleod Steps Down

Oil tanker company Frontline said Wednesday its CEO Robert Hvide Macleod had decided step down from his position. The oil and gas shipping firm said its board had appointed Lars H. Barstad, Frontline's commercial director, to take the role as interim chief executive officer of Frontline Management AS."With his solid background within the industry and his profound understanding of the company and its organization the board is confident that this new appointment will ensure a successful and seamless transition of the role," Frontline said.The outgoing CEO Macleod will be available for Frontline until April 30, 2021.Billionaire shipping magnate and Frontline chairman John Fredriksen said, "I would like to thank Robert for his contribution to Frontline.

Indian PM Narendra Modi Lays Foundation Stone For JNPT Fourth Countainer Terminal

India's biggest container traffic handler Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) has achieved yet another milestone in its ambitious journey to become a world class maritime hub when the Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the fourth container terminal, proposed to be developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 7915 Crores (USD 1.23 bln) on DBFOT basis. Modi arrived at the JNPT Helipad- accompanied by the Maharashtra Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, Union Minister of Shipping, Road Transport & Highways  Nitin Gadkari, the state Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis and other dignitaries. Modi witnessed a six minute Video presentation on JNPT and Fourth Container Terminal (FCT). Modi was briefed by Gadkari that the work has been awarded to M/s Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals Pvt. Ltd.

Philip Joins Ashtead Technology Team

Ashtead Technology announced that Graham Philip has joined the Board as Chief Executive Officer. The appointment is the latest addition to the management team since Ashtead Technology was acquired in June 2008 by Phoenix Equity Partners in a $183.7m MBO. Gulf Navigation Holding PJSC (DFM: GULFNAV), has recently announced the appointment of Mr. Per Wistoft Kristiansen as Chief Executive Officer. Per will lead the company's expansionary mission of growth. Kristiansen has 29 years of experience across Europe, Asia and the United States. Merseyside gets first UK Escort Tug Simulator

The UK's first full active escort tug simulator is to be installed on Merseyside. The Polaris(tm) System, manufactured by Kongsberg Maritime Ship Systems AS, allows tug captains to learn how to escort large ships in a completely safe, simulated environment. The escort tug simulator-training facility is an enhancement of the 360* ship's bridge simulator at Birkenhead-based Lairdside Maritime Centre, which is the only one of its kind in the UK. It is expected to be fully in service by November. The £50,000 project has been jointly funded by Shell UK Ltd, Svitzer Marine and Wirral Waterfront, a single Regeneration Budget Initiative funded by the North West Development Agency.

Transas Wins Huge A.P. Moller Deal

Transas Scandinavia AB has won a large order to supply the A.P. Moller ship owning companies with an extensive ECDIS package. According to the contract signed with INFOCOM Systems A/S (Infocom), a technology company in the A.P. Moller Group, Transas will provide 160 Maersk vessels with a dual Navi-Sailor 2400 ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) complete with Radar Overlay, a full world folio of Transas electronic charts and a subscription to the chart correction service. Transas has also been contracted to supply the weather forecast software, Weather Wizard, onto each ship, as well as the necessary Transas computers and Hatteland displays. In addition to the onboard equipment range, the Transas delivery package will comprise an office ECDIS system for the A.P.

Sea Land acquired for $800M

The consolidation churn claimed its latest victim, as the A.P. Moller Group and CSX announced today that an agreement has been reached for A.P. Moller-Maersk Line to acquire Sea-Land Service, Inc.'s international liner business, including vessels, containers, related terminals and certain lease obligations for $800 million. Sea-Land currently operates about 70 containership and about 200,000 containers in its international trade. "The operation and management will be fully integrated, drawing on the best from both organizations," said Ib Kruse, partner of A.P. Moller. Maersk Shuttle Slots Available

The Maersk barge shuttle between Antwerp and Rotterdam is opened to third parties. It is going to be exploited by chartering broker Lucassen (via Safmarine also member of the A.P. Moller Group). To the present vessel (284 TEU) a second one (156 TEU, with an extra lighter: 260 TEU) will be added enabling a frequency of six times per week. The theoretical maximum capacity of the service is 78,000 TEU (in both directions) per year. The Maersk base load is some 60,000 TEU (both directions). Total volume Antwerp-Rotterdam is estimated at least 650,000 TEU per year.

Safmarine Adds Three Ships To Schedule

South African shipper Safmarine will add three more ships to its current schedule serving the Mediterranean and Africa on Feb. 1. The new ships bring the number of vessels offering a weekly service to seven. Their route, known as the Lisa String, connects Portugal and Spain with Angola, Namibia and South Africa. Maersk Sealand, a sister company within the AP Moller Group which owns Safmarine Container Lines, will be a partner and vessel provider for the Lisa String.
