Intelsat Contributes Communications Infrastructure for Relief Efforts

Intelsat S.A., a provider of satellite services, has provided an update on its satellite capacity and other critical connectivities being used in a number of restoration initiatives in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan. Immediately after the disaster occurred, Intelsat began working with customers and partners to ensure that the necessary infrastructure and satellite capacity were in place to accelerate the restoration of vital communications for relief workers and businesses in the Philippines.

Intelsat Expands in North American Energy Sector

Intelsat S.A. said it signed a multi-year agreement with Digital Networks to provide capacity via its satellite fleet and IntelsatOne terrestrial network, enabling Digital Networks to more effectively support very small aperture terminal (VSAT) communications networks in North America. Digital Networks will leverage Intelsat's teleport services and capacity on the Galaxy 3C satellite to expand its network in the United States and Canada. "This agreement will enable Digital Networks to quadruple its available throughput for delivering integrated voice, data and real-time applications for our energy customers," said Digital Networks CEO Curtis Blankenship.

Contracts

The U.S. Navy awarded the work package on its USS Whidbey Island to Norshipco, a member of the U.S. Marine Repair shipyard family. The contract, which calls for topside phased maintenance, fixed-price availability, states for work to commence on May 24 for a September 1 completion. The work package includes topside repairs, electrical and mechanical repairs, and ship alterations. Specific mechanical repairs entail main propulsion diesel engines, and ship alterations include the RAM Mk31 Mod and Ship's Self Defense System installations. Stratos has been awarded a contract to supply C-band satellite equipment and teleport services for PanCanadian Petroleum Limited's exploration drilling program offshore Nova Scotia.

MTN Collaborates with Xantic

Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), of Miramar, Fla., has signed a cooperative agreement with Xantic. Under the agreement, financial terms of which were not disclosed, Xantic will market and distribute MTN’s VSAT services to the global maritime markets. It will also provide teleport services to MTN at Burum (Netherlands) to add to MTN's existing teleport infrastructure and to add C- and Ku-Band services in the North Sea, Mediterranean and Indian Ocean regions. “This agreement offers MTN the ability to expand our global product and services using Xantic’s excellent facilities at Burum while expanding our sales and distribution capabilities through Xantic’s network of 35 offices worldwide,” said Bradford Briggs, Senior Vice President of MTN.
