Mitsubishi: First-Ever Licensing Deal to Chinese for Marine Propellers

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Marine Machinery & Engine Co., Ltd. (MHI-MME), a group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI),  concluded a licensing agreement with Changzhou Zhonghai Marine Propeller Co., Ltd. (CZZH) under which MHI-MME provides CZZH the manufacturing and marketing rights to its marine propellers. EFC Group Launches Next Phase of NE Scotland Expansion

EFC Group, a designer and manufacturer of instrumentation, monitoring, handling and control systems for the global oil and gas industry, announced the launch of a new manufacturing plant in Moray. The base in Enterprise Park, Forres marks the Group’s second phase of expansion in the area and a £100,000 investment. This follows the opening of a new satellite office in the same business park in September 2012. The new 4,000-square-foot plant has been opened six months ahead of schedule, demonstrating how EFC Group is driving forward its aggressive growth strategy.

Wärtsilä to Set Up New Manufacturing Plant

Wärtsilä will set up a new fully-owned manufacturing facility in Brazil to meet the increasing market demand, particularly in the offshore market. Wärtsilä's investment in the new facilities is approximately EUR 20 million. The manufacturing premises will be based on a multi-product factory concept for the assembly and testing of Wärtsilä generating sets and propulsion products. In the initial phase, activities will focus on medium sized, medium speed generating sets and steerable thrusters, with the possibility to flexibly expand the product range to respond to market needs.

New Manufacturing Plant to Open in Malta

The Ministry for Investment, Industry and Information Technology, together with the Italian firm Finultra SpA, recently announced the setting up of a new manufacturing plant in Malta for the production of specialized equipment used by the maritime industry. The new manufacturing plant is expected to commence with operations in January under the Malta registered Maresi Ltd. Finultra, its Italian mother company has been in operation for over 70 years, and registers a turnover of over $54m. The Maltese plant which will be located at the Bulebel Industrial Estate will be manufacturing magnetic compasses and other electronically controlled devices used in the maritime industry. These products will be exported to European and North American markets.

Ground Breaking for Manufacturing Plant Held in South Korea

A ceremony for the ground breaking for a new manufacturing plant for Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines was held at the Yeongam, South Korea site. The project is a joint venture investment between Wärtsilä Corporation and Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd (HHI), and the new company will be known as Wärtsilä-Hyundai Engine Company Ltd. The joint venture was announced in January 2007. The new plant will be dedicated to producing Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines for LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) carriers. Demand in this market is expected to continue to grow in tandem with the increasing global demand for natural gas. Korea currently has a market share exceeding 70 percent of the LNG shipbuilding market.
