Austal Building 83m Trimaran Ferry for Japan

Austal has revealed its latest development in high-speed trimaran technology with an 83 meter trimaran ferry.The ferry is under construction for JR Kyushu Jet Ferry of Japan, at the company’s Henderson South shipyard in Western Australia.Austal Hull 396, to be known as Queen Beetle, was designed and constructed by Austal Australia and is due for launch in mid-March 2020. Austal Secures Contract for High-speed Ferries

Austal has announced a milestone contract, valued at €126 million (A$190 million), to design and build two 117 metre high-speed vehicle passenger trimaran ferries for long term customer Fred Olsen S.A. of the Canary Islands, Spain. The aluminium trimarans, designed by Austal Australia, will be the second and third trimarans to be delivered to Fred Olsen S.A. who already operate the world’s first and largest trimaran vehicle passenger ferry, the Benchijigua Express – designed and built by Austal in 2005.

Austal Vessel Ehances Wind Farm Ops

Building on its initial success in the renewable energy market, Austal has confirmed a contract for a fourth wind farm support vessel for Turbine Transfers Limited. The order is the first for a new Austal design which will enable safer and more efficient offshore wind turbine service. Welcoming the follow-up order from the UK-based company, Austal Chief Executive Officer, Andrew Bellamy, said the shipbuilder had continued to refine and enhance its Wind Express vessel range following its launch in mid-2010 as part of a strategy to pursue new commercial vessel markets.

Next Generation Austal Trimaran Revealed

Austal has officially unveiled its new 334.6-ft trimaran vehicle-passenger ferry platform, which is currently under construction at its Western Australian shipyard and available for purchase. The new trimaran is an evolution of Austal’s 2005 trimaran ferry Benchijigua Express - optimizing performance, seakeeping, fuel efficiency, passenger comfort and payload. The vessel utilizes Austal’s trimaran technology, combining the softer roll of monohulls with the low resistance, stability and carrying capacity of catamarans, to open up new markets beyond existing fast ferry designs.

Engines Installed on Austal’s Trimaran

Austal’s next generation 334.6 ft high speed trimaran has had its unique three-engine layout successfully installed ahead of the vessel’s launch next month. The vehicle-passenger ferry, which is being built at Austal’s Western Australian facilities and is currently available for purchase, is scheduled for completion by February 2010. Unique to the vessel is a patented three engine layout that combines with the trimaran’s hydrodynamic hull form to deliver fuel efficiency across a range of operating conditions.
