Diversity, Tech on Tap at WISTA Conference

A top hostage negotiator, the CEO of a company which supplies environmental products to ship owners and operators and the heads of two maritime technology firms are all part of an impressive line-up of speakers scheduled to speak at the 2019 Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA) AGM & Conference which takes place next week from Tuesday, October 29, to Friday, November 1. The four-day event is being hosted by WISTA Cayman Islands and is expected to bring over 200 maritime experts from 30-plus countries.

AAPA Cruise Seminar to Explore, Assess Industry Issues

The American Association of Port Authorities’ (AAPA) 2013 Cruise Seminar in San Francisco, April 24-26, will kick off with a candid look inside the cruise industry from the perspective of four key cruise line executives and end with a tour of the Port of San Francisco to see the impact of the America’s Cup on port operations. In between these bookend sessions, seminar participants will be treated to a host of presentations ranging from new international regulations on ship air emissions to itinerary planning, cruise facility design, financing and joint-use terminal opportunities.

Port Execs to Discuss Hurricane Impacts and Recovery

As part of the American Association of Port Authorities’ 94th Annual Convention here next week (port executives from three of the worst-hit seaports in the Gulf Coast after hurricanes Katrina and Rita will gather on Oct. 27, together with a Caribbean port executive whose facilities were ravaged by Hurricane Ivan in September 2004. Their goals are to compare notes, detail the challenges they faced (and may still be facing), and assess opportunities for improving preparedness and response to similar crises in the future. The “Hurricane Preparation and Recovery” panel comprises Gary LaGrange, president and CEO of the Port of New Orleans…
