Pirates Disrupted by USS Pinckney
Guided-missile destroyer USS Pinckney (DDG 91), assigned to Combined Task Force (CTF) 151, disrupted a group of suspected pirates close to the Internationally Recommended Transit Corridor (IRTC), south of Yemen, Dec. 19. The Merchant Shipping Industry Best Management Practices, Version 4 (BMPv4) encourages merchant vessels to register with the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Organization (UKMTO) while transiting areas known to be high risk for piracy.
ECRC Repowers With Evinrude
Eastern Canada Response Corporation (ECRC) selected BRP's Evinrude E-TEC engines to repower its 79-boat fleet. The CA$1.5 million contract was awarded to BRP based on Evinrude outboards' low cost of ownership and high environmental standards. Boston Whaler Fights Ohio River Crime
Residents and businesses along the Ohio River in Beaver County, Penn., will soon see a new Boston Whaler 25-foot Guardian on patrol. More than $3.4 billion worth of goods is transported through the county annually via the river. A recent risk assessment exercise revealed that law enforcement was not adequately equipped to handle a crisis on the waterway. Crime-related or emergency incidents historically have been handled by non-local response teams, which significantly increased response times.
Brunswick Unveils Aluminum High-Speed Patrol Boat
New Aluminum High-Speed Patrol Boat from Brunswick Commercial and Government Products. Brunswick Commercial and Government Products (BCGP) has been hard at work on the design of the new Sentry line of high-speed aluminum patrol craft. The inaugural model, the 32-foot Sentry, will make its debut at the International Workboat Show in New Orleans, Nov. 30-Dec. 2. Demos on the 32-foot Sentry will be available to agencies beginning in January 2012.
Moose Boats Awarded New Contract
Moose Boats Awarded New Contract for City of New Orleans CBRNE Fire Rescue Vessel. Moose Boats, a boat designer and manufacturer in the San Francisco Bay Area, has been awarded a new contract from the New Orleans Fire Department for the construction of a M3-36 Monohull CBRNE Fire Rescue Boat. The M3 is a new product line for Moose Boats and incorporates the builder’s established design and quality reputation in a more compact platform than the M1 and M2 Catamaran Vessels.
New Fireboat Delivered to MassPort
In October 2011, the new RAnger 2400 Class Fireboat, American United was delivered to the Massachusetts Port Authority by the builder A.F. Theriault & Son Ltd. The vessel, named in remembrance of September 11, 2001, was designed by Robert Allan Ltd. of Vancouver, B.C., who worked closely with the Owner to define the vessel's specific operational requirements. The American United will replace Massport's existing vessel Howard W. Fitzpatrick, built in 1971. Darren Hass, P.Eng.

SeaArk Delivers Survey Boats to Corps of Engineers
SeaArk Marine, Inc. recently delivered two 2610 survey boats to the Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District. The vessels are assigned to Pleasant Valley, Iowa and Lock and Dam 18 in Gladstone, Ill. The vessels are powered by twin Mercury Optimax, 225 hp outboard engines with side mounted dual controls and hydraulic trim tabs. These vessels can easily attain a top speed in excess of 34kts fully manned. All enclosed cabin spaces are fully insulated, air conditioned and heated.
BCGP Delivers Boston Whaler 350 Challenger to Ohio
Brunswick Commercial and Government Products (BCGP) delivered a 350 Challenger to the Lorain County Sheriff’s Department in Ohio, where it will be used to patrol the border between the U.S. and Canada on Lake Erie. The Sheriff’s Department is part of a 58-agency task force known as the Northern Border Initiative (NBI). This task force is funded through federal security grant funds administered by the Ohio Department of Public Safety, Division of Homeland Security.

SeaArk’s 27VC Commander RAM Fire/Rescue Boat
SeaArk Marine, Inc. recently completed a 27-ft Commander RAM fire/rescue boat for the Potomac Heights Volunteer Fire Department in Indian Head, Md. The boat is responsible for fire suppression and emergency rescue missions on the Potomac River and surrounding waters. The SeaArk 27-ft Commander RAM is based on a widely proven hull designed by C. Raymond Hunt & Associates, and is constructed of all-welded marine-grade aluminum.
SeaArk Boat for Guntersville Fire Department, Ala.
SeaArk Marine, Inc. has delivered a 30-ft Enforcer Series all-welded aluminum fire/rescue boat to the Guntersville, Ala. Fire Department. The boat features a modified vee, constant deadrise hull that produces a smooth, dry and stable ride. These characteristics were given a high priority by the Guntersville Fire Department in order to ensure required fast response times, capability for all-weather fire fighting and maneuvering on-station requirements were met.

SeaArk Marine, Inc. has delivered a 26-ft Utility Series (Little Giant) all-welded aluminum fire/rescue boat to the Wilder, KY Fire Department. The boat features a heavy duty “cathedral” multi-vee hull that produces a fast, smooth, dry ride and provides a stable fire fighting platform. These characteristics were high priority items required by the Wilder Fire Department in order to meet required fast response times and capability for all-weather fire fighting and maneuvering requirements.
Honda Marine’s New BF115 Outboard
Honda Marine has added the BF115 to its lineup of fuel-injected four-stroke outboard engines. Introduced in 2010, the redesigned BF115 is derived from the inline 4-cylinder 2.4 liter DOHC engine platform used in Honda’s Accord automobile. This engine, coupled with other advanced technologies, is able to produce performance with fuel efficiency and reliability and features design cues similar to its recent predecessors, the BF40 and BF50, BF75 and BF90 and 105 Jet.

Kvichak Constructs Skimmers for Gulf Spill
Kvichak Marine Industries is currently constructing a run of approximately 30 rapid response oil skimmers fitted with Marco Pollution Control CL-1 Filterbelt oil recovery modules for customers responding to the Gulf oil spill. The Kvichak/Marco Filterbelt is suited for high volume recovery of the oil types encountered in this spill. Kvichak is expecting over 100 skimming vessels utilizing the Filterbelt to be in operation on this spill in the coming weeks.
Maritime Services Plays Role in Robin Hood Film
For the Ridley Scott movie, Robin Hood, which opened at the Cannes Film Festival, the Dover beaches were recreated at Freshwater West, in Pembrokeshire, Wales. The last 15 minutes of the film is set on the beach with 130 horses doing a full speed gallop charge into 600 actors. Maritime Services International (MSI) was called in to source a suitable vessel that could be converted into a 12th century landing craft for the French invasion fleet.
Moose Boats Delivers M2-35 Patrol Boats
Moose Boats, a boat designer and manufacturer in the San Francisco Bay Area, has delivered the first two M2-35 Patrol Boats on its existing eight boat contract signed in September 2009. Moose Boats has constructed and delivered 28 patrol boats for the U.S. Navy under five separate contracts. The M2-35 boats will be deployed for harbor security in Norfolk Va. and used to detect, identify, warn, disable or defeat potential threats in the vicinity of vulnerable U.S. Naval assets.
