Ingalls Secures Advance Procurement Contract for LPD 28
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced last week that its Ingalls Shipbuilding division has received a $200 million, cost-plus-fixed-fee advance procurement contract from the U.S. Navy for LPD 28, the 12th amphibious transport dock of the San Antonio (LPD 17) class. The funds will be used to purchase long-lead-time material and major equipment, including main engines, diesel generators, deck equipment, shafting, propellers, valves and other long-lead systems.
SCANIA Expands its Engine Range for Marine Applications
Scania, a tradition-rich Swedish industrial company will celebrate in 2016 its 125-year in existence. Very early on in 1902, the first engines for marine applications were produced. Scania, since 2014 a 100% daughter company of VW, is a manufacturer of trucks, buses, marine and industrial engines and a true propulsion pioneer. Today the company employs approximately 42,000 employees with an annual turnover of $11 billion.
ASRY Active in Bahrain Coast Guard Newbuilds

ASRY marked the commencement of erection of a new Landing Craft being constructed for the Bahrain Coast Guard (BCG) with a keel-laying ceremony. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) has taken delivery of the fourth and final Stan Patrol 4207, named HMBS Rolly Gray. The four Stan Patrol 4207s form part of the six-year Sandy Bottom project. The Stan Patrol 4207s carry a 24-person crew, have a range in excess of 2000 nm and can achieve speeds of 20 knots. EU Supports Somali Coast Guard
As part of the European Union’s efforts to enhance regional states’ maritime security capabilities in the Horn of Africa, on March 15 EUCAP Nestor gave six Nissan 4×4 vehicles, as well as IT and communications equipment, to the Coast Guard of the Federal Government of Somalia in Mogadishu. The EU Naval Force flagship, HNLMS Johan de Witt, helped to deliver two of the vehicles by sea via their Landing Craft Utility vehicles and EUTM staff assisted the teams on the ground.
Marine Transmission Built Arctic Circle Tough
Bowhead Transport's newest addition to its fleet, M/V Unalaq, will service the Alaskan coast, north into the Beaufort Sea. Utilizing Twin Disc's MGX-5135 SC marine transmissions and EC300 Power Commander controls, the shallow-draft landing craft will bring much-needed supplies to this remote area. This includes small, isolated villages far above the Arctic Circle. Unalaq was built to function in Bowhead Transport's lighterage operations.
