Spliethoff Sending 6 Ships to BLRT for Refit Work
Dutch shipping company Spliethoff's Bevrachtingskantoor B.V. has signed contracts with BLRT Grupp to have scrubbers (systems for cleaning exhaust gases) and ballast water treatment systems installed on board six of its ships. The latest contract for the modernization of Spliethoff's F-type ships (deadweight up to 12,500 tons) follows an earlier agreement to install ballast water treatment systems aboard the company’s 14 S-type vessels (deadweight up to 21,500 tons).
Revised G8 Certificate for Alfa Laval PureBallast 3
PureBallast 3, the third generation ballast water treatment technology from Swedish manufacturer Alfa Laval, is the first solution to be type approved according to the revised IMO G8 testing requirements. DNV GL, acting on behalf of the Norwegian Maritime Authority, issued an updated type approval certificate on February 2, making Alfa Laval the first supplier compliant with the revised G8 demands. The revised G8 guidelines, which are more in line with the stringent U.S.
Seatruck Installs BWTS during Normal Service
When the time came to select ballast water treatment systems for retrofit on board its vessels, freight ferry operator Seatruck opted for the Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) for its ships, citing ease of installation, reliability, cost efficiency and complete regulatory compliance as deciding factors. The roll-on roll-off (RoRo) cargo specialist went on to install five systems itself while its vessels were undertaking normal operations – no dry dock required.
