IMO Secretary-General to Make Arctic Voyage
IMO Secretary-General Koji Sekimizu departs later this week (Thursday, August 15) on a five-day Arctic sea voyage as part of a fact-finding mission to the region. Mr. Sekimizu will be the guest of the government of the Russia aboard the nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy as she voyages on the Northern Sea Route that links Europe and northern Russia. Rapp Electric Winches for New OâHara Vessel
Rapp Hydema landed a contract for theoutfitting of the new trawler F/V Araho, a 185-ft. freezer-trawler being built for OâHara Corporation at Eastern Shipbuilding in Pensacola, Fla. The owners had originally planned to retrofit the F/V Harvester Enterprise but instead opted for an outright newbuild. The new trawler build has potential to mark the first of several new trawler builds to replace aging hulls throughout the Alaskan trawl fleet.
New Thorplas-Blue Bearings on the Market
Thordon Bearings Inc. has launched the newest addition to their greaseâfree polymer lineup: ThorPlasâBlue. The lifetime lubricated bearing formula is capable of operating pressures up to 45MPa (6,527 psi) and can be easily backâfit into virtually all deck machinery applications where greased bronze is currently installed. ThorPlasâBlue was developed as a maintenanceâfree solution to replaced greased bronze bearings as well as eliminate a source of pollution.
Rolls-Royce Wins Brazil OSV Contract
Rolls-Royce contracted by Aliança S/A Industria Naval e Empresa de Navegacao, a subsidiary of Fischer Group, and Brazilian shipowner Asgaard Navegação S.A for the design and delivery of equipment to two offshore vessels for Asgaard. The contract value is about £11million to Rolls-Royce. The two vessels are Oil Spill Response Vessels (OSRV), type UT 535 E, with systems designed to prevent damage from oil spills. They have the capacity to transfer recovered oil for proper onshore disposal.
Rolls-Royce Deliver Naval USV & RHIB Launch/Recovery Systems
Rolls-Royce has recently delivered 2 launch & recovery systems for unmanned surface vehicles (USV) & manned Rigid Hull Inflatable Boats (RHIBs) to an international navy. These systems have been retrofitted aboard frigates and utilize a custom articulating davit with a telescopic boom. Rolls Royce Wins Significant Fincantieri Cruise Ship Contract
Rolls-Royce signs extensive equipment orders with Italian cruise ship builder Fincantieri for Viking Cruises' 2 newbuildings. Viking Cruises recently ordered two cruise ships from Fincantieri and have chosen the highly-efficient Rolls-Royce integrated rudder and propulsion system, called Promas, for their vessels. This is the first time that a Promas propulsion system is being installed on a new-build cruise vessel.

Robert Allan Designs Tug for Rio Tinto
The Pilbara Apollo, the latest addition to the RAstar 3200 escort tug series was delivered to its owners, Rio Tinto Ltd., earlier this year. The vessel was constructed at Uzmar Shipbuilding Industry Co. in Turkey and will operate at Rio Tintoâs iron ore export facilities at Cape Lambert (Port Walcott) and Dampier, Australia. The Pilbara Apollo is the first of six new RAstar 3200 tugs to be delivered to Rio Tinto as part of this contract.

Rolls-Royce to Supply Propulsion for Neptune Lines
Rolls-Royce won a contract to supply its Promas propulsion system for two new car and truck carrying ships which are being built in Korea for Neptune Lines. Promas is an integrated propeller and rudder system that increases efficiency and manoeuvrability. Robert Allan Designed Tugboat Delivered to Colombia
New AVT 3000 Class Voith Schneider tugboat for Carbonnes del Cerrejón completes delivery voyage from Turkey to Colombia. The new tugboat, Media Luna, sailed into Puerto de Bolivar, Colombia to be welcomed by other Cerrejón towing vessels providing fire monitor displays. Media Luna was constructed at Uzmar Tug and Work Boat Factory in Izmit, Turkey. This is the first of a two boat order for the AVT 3000 Class Tugs designed by Robert Allan Ltd., Naval Architects of Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

Tugboat Handed Over by Turkish Yard
Sanmar deliver the tugboat 'Ulupinar 14' to its owner, UK's SMS Towage, after a 6-month charter. Some 15 of this exclusive and versatile ASD model designed by the Robert Allan Limited team with considerable input from Ali Gurun, project director at Sanmar, have now been built.
