Port Launches Emergency Landing Craft
Port of Long Beach officials welcomed a new addition to their small fleet of boats this week with the delivery of a refurbished and retrofitted landing craft that will strengthen their emergency recovery capabilities. Donated to the Port by the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency, the Landing Craft Mechanized Mark 8, or LCM-8 underwent 12 months of renovations to add cleaner engines, a salvage crane and a galley.

Landing Craft Becomes Floating Repair Facility
Platinum Yacht Repair, the yacht repair and maintenance arm of Dubai's Drydocks World & Maritime World, say they have converted the landing craft Al Hail 1, belonging to Dubai-based M/S Royal Yachts from naval to civilan use as floating yacht repair and maintenance facility. The 54-metre vessel arrived at the Platinum Yacht Repair facility at Dubai Maritime City in June 2013 to undergo the necessary extensive modification and refit.

Cameroon Navy Takes Two Patrol Boats
The Cameroonian Navy (CN) has taken delivery of two new 24m ARESA 2400 CPV Defender and one new 23m ARESA 2300 LD Craft to patrol and secure it’s coast. Cameroon’s Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Jean Mendoua, commissioned the 23m Aresa 2300 landing craft and two 24m Aresa 2400 CPV Defender patrol boats at the Cameroon Navy Base in Douala on November 21. The commissioning also included a presentation meeting as well as a tour of the boats while moored at the Naval Base.

China Warships Patrol Far Off Southern Island
China Navy's Nanhai Fleet flotilla is patrolling the Zengmu Reef, the southernmost part [of what it considers to be] the country's territory, and those on board the 3 ships took a ceremonial oath to safeguard sovereignty, reports Xinhua. The Zengmu Reef is a key maritime traffic juncture as well as a strategic spot. The Chinese navy patrols the area, about 50 miles off the coast of Malaysia on a regular basis.
