Make Over for Landing Craft
The iconic 4-wheel-drive World War II Jeep has undergone decades of upgrades to become the modern SUV. Now the craft that landed on the beaches of Normandy and the islands of the Pacific has been similarly upgraded at the South East Asia Shipyard in Vietnam. The most important factor in the design, by France’s Piriou Ingénierie, is the provision for the landing craft to carry up to nine TEU of containers on trailers as well as regular cargos.
BMT Achieves Strong Financial Results
BMT Group Ltd, the international design, engineering and risk management consultancy, announced today that it has achieved strong financial results, despite a difficult year for the global economy and the maritime industry in particular. A turnover of £142m provided the group with an underlying operating profit of £11m in the year to 30 September 2010, £5.8m of which has been distributed to the staff through the company’s profit share schemes.

Strategic Marine Awarded Another Repeat Order
Strategic Marine has signed another repeat order with Western Australian company Bhagwan Marine to deliver two new vessels to service the WA's offshore oil and gas industry, including the Gorgon Project. The new contracts for a 49.5 metre and 38 metre landing craft follows the delivery of a 48 metre landing craft to join the Bhagwan Marine fleet late last year and a 27 metre work barge in March this year.
Almar, North River Boats Delivers Fire Boat
Almar by North River Boats Inc. of Roseburg, Ore. announced the recent delivery of a 30-ft by 10-ft Sounder / Fire Boat. This boat was built to NFPA 1925 standards and the fire suppression system was UL Certified prior to delivery. The boat is equipped with twin Honda 225 hp four stroke outboards for its main propulsion system and powers the 30-ft vessel at greater than 32 knots. A single 200 gallon fuel tank supplies the propulsion engines, fire engine and genset.

GE Aviation is planning to leverage the modern technology and performance of the GE38 into an engine option for marine applications. The GE38 is one of the most technologically advanced turboshaft engine in its class, and it has been selected to power the Sikorsky CH-53K helicopter in development for the United States Marine Corps. U.S. Navy Awards Kvichak Contract for More Utility Boats
Kvichak Marine Industries, Inc., of Seattle, Wash., was recently awarded a contract by the United States Navy for the construction of five each MPF utility boats following the successful delivery of 26 vessels since February 2006. The 40-ft high-speed landing craft are replacing the Navy’s existing LCM-8 craft as part of the Improved Navy Lighterage System in support of pre-positioned Marine Amphibious assault missions.
