DOT Provides $7 Million for Maritime Education
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration today announced that America’s six state maritime academies – California Maritime Academy, Great Lakes Maritime Academy, Maine Maritime Academy, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, SUNY Maritime College and Texas Maritime Academy – and the United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) in Kings Point, N.Y., will each receive $1 million from a government program that recycles obsolete vessels.

MARAD Examines Impacts of Panama Canal Expansion
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) today released a study on shipping patterns and industry costs that will help the United States prepare for the anticipated impact on its ports, waterways and intermodal freight systems from the Panama Canal expansion. The expansion of the Panama Canal, scheduled for completion in 2015, will give much larger vessels, called “Post Panamax” vessels, greater access to the U.S. ports on the East and Gulf coasts.
Doyle Talks LNG, Exports, Panama Canal with Japanese Officials

MARAD Announces $9.46 Million Shipyard Grant
The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) announced $9.46 million to help improve 12 shipyards in 10 states. The grants, provided through the Small Shipyard Grant Program, foster efficiency and modernizations that allow shipyards to compete more effectively in the global marketplace. New Orleans Intermodal TIGER Site Visited
