Canada: Damen to Deliver 80m Ice Class Ferry
The Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Government has awarded Damen Shipyards Group an order for a state-of-the-art, 80 m Ice Class ferry, which will operate on the Fogo Island-Change Islands service. Scheduled for delivery in September 2015, the 14-knot ro-ro ferry will be able to carry up to 200 passengers and 60 vehicles. The investment in the new ferry is part of the Government’s vessel renewal program. She will replace the aging MV Captain Earl Winsor.
Willard Marine Nets Foreign Navy Boat Orders
Headquartered in Anaheim, California, Willard Marine is emerging as a leading supplier of patrol boats for international navies: recent sales include the Lebanon Armed Forces, Egyptian navy, Ukrainian navy and Iraqi navy, under U.S. Foreign Military Sales (FMS) programs. Lebanon has acquired four Willard Marine 11-meter cabin rigid-hull inflatable boats (RIBs) and four 11-meter open console RIBs for coastal patrol missions through the U.S. Coast Guard FMS office.
Irving Plans for the Future
Irving Shipbuilding is currently focused on the 30-month AOPS Project Definition Contract of the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy (NSPS) program, signed on March 7, 2013. Together with its Tier 1 subcontractors, Irving is working to produce a detailed AOPS ship design that delivers best value to Canada while ensuring it meets the 2015 deadline to cut steel on the first ship. Ongoing projects for Canada also require continued focus.

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has won a contract from India’s Cochin Shipyard to supply 60 water jets for a new fleet of 20 Fast Patrol Vessels for the Indian Coast Guard.
