Fincantieri Completes Two Refits for Crystal Cruises

Italian shipbuilding group Fincantieri announced it has completed the parallel modernization of two cruise ships for Crystal Cruises. The first vessel, Crystal Serenity, rejoined the owner’s fleet on July 20, and the second, Crystal Symphony, was delivered in recent days.The contract was finalized in December 2022, and, after an initial phase committed to engineering development, works lasted for about five months significantly raising the level of amenities and accommodations on board.

Royal Caribbean Takes Full Ownership of Silversea Cruises

Royal Caribbean Group has acquired the remaining shares of Silversea Cruises, a specialist in the ultra-luxury and expedition cruising, after previously buying a two-thirds share of the cruise line in July 2018.The remaining one-third stake held by Heritage Cruise Holding Ltd. was paid for in the form of 5.2 million shares of Royal Caribbean Group common stock, which represents about 2.5% of the total common stock."Silversea has been a great fit for our company from the very first day," said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group.

Silver Moon Launched at Fincantieri

Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has launched Silver Moon, the second of three Muse-class ships to be built for Silversea Cruises.The new ultra-luxury cruise ship was launched on August 29 at Fincantieri’s Ancona yard and is set to enter the ship owner’s fleet in 2020.The ceremony was attended, among others, by Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio, Chairman of Silversea, while Fincantieri was represented by Giovanni Stecconi, Ancona Shipyard Director.The godmother of the ceremony was Miss Roberta Bonisiol, an employee of the shipbuilding group.“Silver Moon” will be a sister ship of “Silver Muse”, which took the sea in 2017, and of “Silver Dawn” due to delivery in 2021.

Silversea Cruises Orders Three New Ships

Royal Caribbean Cruises (RCL) and Silversea Cruises announced agreements to build three new ships for Silversea Cruises, including two luxury vessels as well as a single expedition ship for the Galapagos.Silversea, the luxury and expedition cruise brand that recently joined the RCL family, signed a memorandum of understanding with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft to build two new vessels in its new Evolution Class. The first Evolution Class ship is expected to deliver in 2022.Silversea also signed a contract with Dutch shipbuilder Shipyard De Hoop to construct a new expedition vessel, named Silver Origin, that will serve the Galapagos Islands itinerary currently sailed by Silver Galapagos.

Monaco based cruise line Silversea Cruises has ordered another new ship from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, with delivery scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021.The $382 million contract for the construction of luxury cruise ship Silver Dawn follows Silversea's September 2017 order for sistership Silver Moon to be delivered from Fincantieri in 2020.The newbuilds will be the second and third vessels in the Muse-class series. Silversea Cruises Orders Newbuild from Fincantieri

Silversea Cruises has place an order worth about €310 million (US$371.4 million) with Fincantieri for the construction of a new ultra-luxury cruise ship. The new vessel, tentatively named Silver Moon, will be a sister ship of Silver Muse, delivered in April at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Sestri Ponente, Genoa. At 40,700 gross tons and with a capacity to accommodate 596 passengers on board, the ship will maintain the small-ship intimacy and spacious all-suite accommodations. According to the builder, the new ship will achieve Green star 3 Design notation assigned to units that are designed, built and equipped in order to prevent air and water pollution, as well as the COMF-NOISE A PAX and COMF-NOISE B CREW notations assigned on the basis of the ship’s measured noise levels.

Fincantieri Launches Silver Muse

Silver Muse, the new ultra-luxury cruise ship which Fincantieri is building for the ship owner Silversea Cruises, was launched at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Genoa Sestri Ponente. Interior fittings will now begin, leading the vessel to its delivery, scheduled in April 2017. 2nd Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum

The Minister of Development Competitiveness and Shipping, heads of international cruise sector bodies, senior officials from Greece’s port authorities and representatives from a wide spectrum of the cruising industry agreed today that state protectionism is a stumbling block that discourages the potential growth of the country’s sea tourism. They were addressing an audience of 200 cruise industry professionals who attended the 2nd Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum held today, Wednesday 6th June, at the sidelines of Posidonia 2012, the world’s biggest shipping trade event. According to the Minister of Development, Competitiveness and Shipping, Mr Ioannis Stournaras, Greece attracts 4.3 million cruise line passengers every year who spend some Euro 430 million at greek destinations.

Cruise Industry Growth in Greece

Senior representatives of the European Cruise Council (ECC) told the Posidonia Forum, meeting in Athens today, that the growth of the cruise sector in Greece is being maintained, despite the difficult economic climate. ECC Chairman, Manfredi Lefebvre D’Ovidio and Chairman of the ECC Port Sub-Committee, Neil Palomba, both warned of significant potential obstacles and challenges that could seriously threaten the steady growth of the sector, but added that incentives could help the cruise industry play a key role in the economic recovery of the country. The ECC Chairman told the Forum that Greece is “a key cruise destination in Europe”, with some 4.7 million passengers arriving at Greek ports, 17% of the total European market, ranking third in Europe, only behind Italy and Spain.

Cruise Industry Announce 3 New Safety Policies

Chairman of the European Cruise Council and Member of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Executive Committee, Manfredi Lefebvre, made the announcement in Brussels, outlining how these policies have been agreed by the industry and represent the third such announcement from the cruise industries Operational Safety Review. These three new policies, which go beyond even the strictest of regulatory requirements, address the following issues. 1) Passage Planning – although cruise lines have followed IMO guidance on passage planning for many years our policy now deems this to be a mandatory minimum requirement and enhanced by endorsement of the best practices contained in the International Chamber of Shipping’s Bridge Procedures Guide.

Silversea To Rename Expedition Ship

(Ft. Lauderdale, FL -- April 20, 2011) Ultra-luxury Silversea Cruises today announced plans to change the name of the Prince Albert II, its expedition ship, to Silver Explorer. The change will occur later this month while the vessel is in dry dock at the Lisnave shipyard in Setubal, Portugal, undergoing routine maintenance prior to commencing a summer program of Northern Europe and Arctic voyages. Silversea Cruises Appoints Albert Peter As CEO

Luxury cruise line, Silversea Cruises, Ltd., has announced that its owners, Italy's Lefebvre family, have completed a restructuring of its family holdings. As part of this process, Dr. Lefebvre. In his first order of business, Dr. Lefebvre has appointed Albert Peter to the position of CEO, effective immediately. Currently in the midst of a fleet expansion that will increase Silversea's capacity by 130 percent, these developments have been put in place to position the award-winning company for continued growth and expansion. The line welcomed the 382-guest, 28,258 grt Silver Shadow in September 2000 and is preparing to take delivery of sister ship Silver Whisper later this month.

Silversea Cruises, today welcomed the 382-passenger, 28,258 grt Silver Whisper into its fleet. Following the time honored tradition of blessing and christening a ship, Godmother Marzia Lefebvre D'Ovidio, wife of Silversea Chairman Manfredi Lefebvre D'Ovidio, broke the traditional bottle of champagne onto the bow of Silver Whisper at a morning ceremony heralding the arrival of Silversea's fourth luxury vessel.
