Thai Project Turns Fishing Nets into Virus Protection Gear

Thai fisherman Anan Jaitang used to pile tattered nylon fishing nets on the beach after hauls of wriggling crabs tore them beyond repair, but most of the nets wound up in the sea, threatening to entangle turtles and choke coral reefs.Now, Anan and others have an alternative that's not only lucrative and environmentally friendly but will help Thailand battle the coronavirus pandemic.A new community-based project is paying small-scale fishermen 10 baht (32 cents) per kilogram of discarded nets…

Long established in the trucking, warehousing, cargo transfer and barging industry of Thailand, S.P. Inter Marine can be described as a broadly horizontally integrated firm. Sub-Sea Tin Mining

According to some reports, the world’s first mining operation in the world to use vessels for dredging ore from the sea bottom was developed in 1907 by Australian Edward Miles. He dredged the sea bottom around Thailand’s modern tourist island of Phuket to recover tin, which had been mined on the island for hundreds of years. By the 1960s some innovative entrepreneurs had begun to build iron rafts using drills to loosen the sea bottom allowing them to vacuum the residue to the surface in order to separate the tin.

Bulk Carrier into Unithai for Fix

The largest ship currently under repair at Thailand’s Unithai Shipyard is the 140,532 dwt bulk carrier Eurydice D, owned by Marmaras. Other ships in the yard include the 35,224 dwt bulk carrier Maris, owned by Trust Shipping Enterprise, Piraeus, the 22,857 dwt part containership Med Lerici, owned by B Navi, World CI’s 3,043 dwt lpg vessel Gas Eurasia, the 22,531 dwt general cargo vessel Everise Glory, owned by Everise Maritime, Kuala Lumpur, and Baba Kaiun’s 10,100 dwt bulk carrier Ayutthaya Ruby. Also due is the 25,486 dwt bulk carrier Maritime Trader, owned by IMC Shipping.
