Transas Installs VTS Systems in Morocco Ports

In May 2002, Transas installed its Navi-Harbour 3000 VTS systems in two Moroccan ports, Jorf Lasfar and Mohammedia. Transas has won these orders following the success of Soremar, its local distributor in Morocco and North Africa, in the international tender. The VTS system configurations ordered for the both ports are identical and comprise in each case a radar sensor with a Transas ORS-3 radar processor, Transas VTS Server used as Master operator station and one full-functional Operator Display Unit Workstation. The systems supplied provide target tracking within the area extending from 20 nautical miles outside the port to ship berthings on the port basin.

Functional capabilities of the Transas VTS systems installed in Morocco include automatic/manual target acquisition and tracking, target identification associated with database entries from Transas VTS Information System, synchronous recording of all VTS data and capability of playing back any desired time fragment, automatic logging of major events related to ship visits in the electronic Log Book, as well as recording of voice communications using the WorldNet Racal Recorders. The open-architecture configuration of the Transas system allows for its expansion in the future to include extra sensors and operator’s stations. External VTS data users, such as Customs Service, Port Police and shipping agents can be connected to the system on a server/client basis. The latest Transas Navi-Harbour ver. 3.6 software has been applied for the Moroccan projects. This version incorporates all the most recent software, technology and integration achievements available in the industry. The VTS systems in the Ports of Jorf Lasfar and Mohammedia are ready to be integrated with Universal AIS system. This has been the first installation of Transas VTS systems on the African continent. Jorf Lasfar and Mohammedia are two big international trade ports in Morocco. Intensive vessel traffic and considerable cargo turnover in close vicinity to the Casablanca beaches make the issue of the navigational safety in the area especially acute. The high-quality VTS systems from Transas are found to satisfy these increased requirements.
