British multinational BAE Systems was awarded a pair of contracts worth $300 million that will support the Navy in digital endeavors.The first is a $212 million contract from the Navy’s Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division to integrate and sustain critical communications systems. The 10,000th Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for Kongsberg Maritime’s AutoChief propulsion control system took place at Kongsberg Maritime Korea in Busan on Friday, April 27. The AutoChief 600 system tested will be installed on a new LEG carrier featuring a 2-stroke MAN B&W engine being built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard (Hull 8258), for owner Solvang ASA. Huntington Ingalls Inc., Pascagoula, Mississippi, is being awarded a $9,999,010 cost-plus-award fee contract modification to a previously awarded contract (N00024-12-C-4323) to provide level of effort funding for CG modernization program design services. The contract is for planning yard services for CG-47 class cruisers. Huntington Ingalls provides necessary engineering, technical, planning, ship configuration, data, and logistics efforts for CG-47 class cruisers for lifetime support of both maintenance and modernization. The Navy will christen the newest guided-missile destroyer, the future USS Paul Ignatius (DDG 117), today (Saturday)  CDT ceremony at Huntington Ingalls Industries Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The future USS Paul Ignatius is named in honor of the Honorable Paul Ignatius, who served as assistant secretary of defense for installations and logistics and later as secretary of the navy between 1967 and 1969, both under President Lyndon B. Johnson. Ignatius had previously served as a commissioned lieutenant in the Navy during World War II. The future USS Paul Ignatius will be the first ship to bear his name. Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson will serve as the principal speaker during the ceremony.

Dhaka-based business conglomerate DBL Group has recently launched its dredging business, DBL Dredging. To support its entry into this new market it ordered two IHC Beaver 50 cutter suction dredgers (CSDs), and two Delta Multi Craft (DMC) 1050 work boats. The two IHC Beaver 50s were delivered with a spud carrier pontoon, anchor boom installation, production measuring system and dredge track presentation system (DTPS). This will enable DBL to perform an efficient dredging operation.

The Navy will christen its newest Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, Ralph Johnson (DDG 114), Saturday, April 2, during a 10 a.m. CDT ceremony at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi. The ship will be christened by the ship sponsor, Georgeanne McRaven. The Honorable Sean Stackley, assistant secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition will deliver the principal address. "The christening of the future USS Ralph Johnson represents yet another example of how our Navy's partnership with the highly-skilled shipbuilders of our nation continues to help us grow our fleet," said Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus. The future Ralph Johnson is the 64th Arleigh Burke-class destroyer. The ship will commission in 2017 and will be homeported in Everett, Washington.

SAFE Boats International announced that Retired Vice Admiral William E. “Bill” Landay III has been appointed as a Director of the Board at SAFE Boats International. Vice Admiral Landay retired in 2013 after more than 35 years of naval service. His final assignment was as Director of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) from August 2010 until September 2013. DSCA oversees the U.S. Government's Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program and is responsible for the sale of arms, defense technologies, training and other services to foreign governments.

Kalmar, part of Cargotec, played a successful role in delivering an automated straddle carrier solution to Patrick Stevedores' during their recent automation of Port Botany container terminal in Sydney, Australia. The conversion from manual operations at Port Botany was made in only four days, setting a benchmark for the whole container terminal industry. Patrick's Port Botany is now the world's second fully-automated AutoStrad(TM) terminal, operating with 45 Kalmar AutoStrads and real time control systems. It follows the automation success of Patrick's Fisherman Island terminal in Brisbane, which was converted to an automated straddle carrier operation in 2005.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won a contract from Chinese shipbuilder Wuhu Xinlian to supply two complete deck equipment packages for a pair of 78m anchor handling, supply and oil recovery vessels. The MacGregor equipment will be installed on the 12,000 bhp, 150 tonne bollard pull vessels under construction for Sentinel Offshore (L) Limited. Equipment delivery is scheduled during August and September 2015. The contract follows a similar order from Wuhu Xinlian placed in August 2014, to supply full packages of MacGregor AHTS equipment for two 150 tonne bollard pull AHTS/oil recovery vessels. MacGregor has signed a new series of deck machinery orders for 12 vessels with the China-based Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group. This builds on a track-record of contracts that now stands at 150 shipsets of equipment successfully delivered and installed at Sinopacific yards. The orders were booked into the third quarter 2014 order intake. "These orders demonstrate Sinopacific's confidence and satisfaction with MacGregor equipment and its services," said Francis Wong, Vice President, Segment Sales, MacGregor Offshore.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, says it has won a series of deck equipment orders from Chinese shipbuilder Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co Ltd. The winches and deck machinery packages will be fitted to six vessels under construction at the yard. Two 100m 300-person accommodation/work barges will each feature eight-point mooring systems, with an 85-tonne line pull/150-tonne brake holding capacity, tugger winches and capstans. These vessels are scheduled to be delivered from the second quarter of 2015 to the third quarter of 2016. The remaining four 99.8m accommodation/installation maintenance and repair vessels will each feature a range of deck machinery with delivery planned from the third quarter of 2015 through to the second quarter of 2016.

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has got an order from Wuhu Xinlian shipyard in China to supply a full package of MacGregor anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) equipment to two 150-tonne bollard pull AHTS/oil recovery vessels. The equipment is scheduled for delivery by May 2015 and an option remains for two more ship sets. "The contract was won as a direct result of MacGregor's recently extended product portfolio and its ability to offer competitive and highly technical advanced technology with strong lifetime support worldwide," says Francis Wong, Vice President, Segment Sales, Offshore. The scope of MacGregor equipment includes a medium-pressure anchor windlass/mooring winch, capstans, tugger winches, storage reels and a power pack.

The future 'USS Michael Murphy' (DDG 112) leaves General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (BIW) shipyard for New York City for fleet commissioning. This milestone marks the completion of the initial 62-ship procurement for the DDG 51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyer program, and the 34th DDG 51 class ship built at BIW, until the class-restart ships begin delivering in fiscal year 2016. "This sailaway is a poignant milestone for both this ship and the program," said Capt. Mark Vandroff, DDG 51 class program manager for the Navy's Program Executive Office, Ships (PEO Ships).

Lifeboat manufacturer and service provider Schat-Harding has widened the range of its global service network to cover multi-brand servicing and the re-hooking of lifeboats. For the first time, shipowners and offshore operators will be able to get most of their lifeboats, hooks, winches and davits serviced by a trained engineer working to the highest global standards, backed by a global service network. They will also be able to use Schat-Harding’s range of modern hooks to replace older models which may no longer meet IMO standards in most boats.

The Navy christened the newest guided-missile destroyer, Spruance, Saturday, June 5, 2010, during a ceremony at Bath Iron Works, Bath, Maine. The new destroyer honors legendary Adm. Raymond Spruance, whose calm and decisive leadership at the Battle of Midway contributed to a pivotal American victory during World War II. Ellen Spruance Holscher, granddaughter of the ship's namesake, served as sponsor, and in accordance with Navy tradition, will break a bottle of champagne across the bow to formally christen the ship.

The Delaware River Pilots Association recently contracted with Carey's Diesel to repower a vessel with a pair of Isotta Fraschini marine diesel engines, rated at 550 hp @ 2,400 rpm. This is the third vessel the Pilots Association has chosen to repower using Isotta Fraschini engines. The first Isotta Fraschini repowers were two 56,000-lb. vessels named Wilmington and Delaware. Wilmington's two 8V-72T Detroit Diesel two-cycle, eight cylinder engines were replaced with two V1308T2 MLH Isotta Fraschini four-stroke, V-8 cylinder marine diesel engines. Delaware's two 8V-92 Detroit Diesel two-cycle, eight cylinder engines were replaced with a pair of V1312T2 MLH Isotta Fraschini four-stroke, V-12 cylinder marine diesel engines.

Wärtsilä Corporation and the Norwegian gas transportation company BW Gas ASA of Oslo signed a contract in January 2007 for the training of BW Gas personnel. The contract is for two years. The training courses provided under this contract are tailored to the specific requirements of BW Gas to cover the specific operational and performance aspects of the ships in the BW Gas fleet. The objective is to give ships' personnel and shore management a sound basis for cost-efficient, safe and reliable operation of the company's ships. It is intended that the training courses go beyond the usual practical training for various ship systems and equipment to transfer knowledge about engine performance and operation philosophy in order to ensure optimum operation of the ships' plants.

Lockheed Martin, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, SAMPA Kogyo K.K. and Mitsubishi Corporation have formed a joint venture company that will serve the emerging combat system engineering and lifetime support requirements of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Forces (JMSDF). The joint venture company, MLS Corporation, represents a full service partnership arrangement between industry and government, and leverages Japanese and U.S. industry expertise in life cycle support and integration services to benefit the JMSDF. MLS Corporation products will include engineering support and testing of complex electronics equipment, logistics services, training, commercial-off- the-shelf (COTS) configuration management and application program maintenance and upgrades.
