Wärtsilä Wins First ‘LPG as Fuel’ Order for New Gas Carriers

Wärtsilä will provide an integrated cargo handling and fuel gas system for two new liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers for Belgium-based owner Exmar. The 80,000m³ very large gas carriers are being built at HHIC-Philippines (Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Philippines) in Subic Bay, and will be the first vessels capable of running on LPG, according to Wärtsilä, who secured the order in July 2018.Wärtsilä, which offers ‘LPG as fuel’ as a fully integrated part of the cargo handling system…

Wärtsilä Control Systems for 3 New Containerships

Wärtsilä's Nacos Platinum Integrated Navigation Automation Control System has been selected for a series of three 'mega-class' container vessels being built for French shipowner CMA CGM at the HHIC-Phil yard in Subic Bay, Philippines. The contract with Wärtsilä was signed in August. The Wärtsilä Nacos Platinum platform is based on an Ethernet-based network and covers all aspects of integrated bridge and machinery monitoring and control systems. It combines all relevant navigation and automation tasks under a single HMI (Human Machine Interface) umbrella. The system uses modern ring topology and provides the flexibility to navigate, control and monitor the vessel from different multifunctional operator stations.

Wärtsilä Propulsion for LNG Bunker Vessel

A new 5,800-cubic-meter LNG bunker and feeder vessel, being built for Sirius Veder Gas AB at Royal Bodewes, Hoogezand, in the Netherlands, will be powered by a Wärtsilä propulsion solution. Wärtsilä, who received the contract in September, will supply a propulsion package comprising a six-cylinder Wärtsilä 34DF dual-fuel main engine capable of running on either LNG or diesel, a reduction gearbox with power take-off (PTO), a shaft line suitable for use with environmentally friendly lubricants and equipped with a Wärtsilä Airguard aft seal that allows zero emissions, and a Wärtsilä controllable pitch propeller. The latest Wärtsilä 34DF engine version features high power output and reduced fuel consumption in both gas and diesel modes, according to the manufacturer.

Wärtsilä Environmental Seal Systems First to Gain Recognition

Wärtsilä has received an important service level recognition for its Wärtsilä Airguard and Wärtsilä Oceanguard propeller shaft sealing systems from Lloyd's Register. The recognition of Lloyd's Register, a marine classification society, confirms that the sealing systems meet the US Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) requirements. Wärtsilä Seals and Bearings cover 90% of SWS Newbuilds

Wärtsilä is supplying air/oil lubricated sterntube seals and bearings to Chinese shipyard Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS) for a series of new tankers under construction by SWS for Singapore-based Ocean Tankers. A complete Wärtsilä package of JMT Airguard seals, sterntube bearings, and shaftline bearings, was ordered in October and December 2006 for installation in the first of 12 Aframax tankers. "We have established a very good relationship with Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, which today is the largest commercial shipyard in China. Since 2001 we have supplied seals and bearings to SWS for 32 bulk carriers and 16 crude oil tankers," said Wärtsilä Seals and Bearings regional sales manager Adrian Higginbottom.
