Kongsberg Digital, BW LNG and Alpha Ori Ink Digital Deal

Kongsberg Digital, BW LNG and Alpha Ori Technologies signed a strategic digitalization partnership to realize digital capabilities that enhance efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of LNG carriers (LNGCs) and floating storage and regasification units (FRSUs). Headset communications on board workboats in harsh marine environments are subject to a variety of challenges: background noise from loud engines and high wind turbulence around the microphone and the highly corrosive salt and spray in marine environments. On board rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIB) and high-speed craft (HSC) that pound through rough waters at 60 knots – including a variety of patrol boats and interceptor/interdiction vessels – critical communication can be rendered all but impossible.

Antwerp Port Acquires Stake in NxtPort

Antwerp Port Authority and FPIM (Federal Participation & Investment Company) are to jointly acquire a stake in NxtPort, the digital data platform for the port community. The contribution by the new partners (Port Authority 75%, FPIM 25%) takes the form of capital plus a subordinated loan, together totalling 5.25 million euros. “With our participation we seek to contribute towards the further development of NxtPort as an innovative data platform that will be a driver of logistical, maritime and industrial innovation in our port, as well as offering gains in efficiency,” declared Port Authority CEO Jacques Vandermeiren. “Big data is the fuel of the future economy, it is an engine of growth and change. So we have to back it in a big way,” he concluded.

The new R3016 12U/6X  IMO type approved radar solution is ideal for use aboard CAT 3 SOLAS vessels1, workboats, tugs and coastal fishing boats. Its 12-kilowatt X-Band transceiver and 6-foot open array scanner are designed for high reliability and low maintenance. Alongside the 6-foot array comes the new Simrad R3016, a compact control unit with a 1366x768-pixel high-definition 15.6” diagonal widescreen display.

SMM 2014 Witnesses Record Turnout

SMM was another full success. With more than 2,100 exhibitors from all around the world, including 150 first-timers, with 50,000 industry visitors and roughly 90,000 square metres of exhibition space, SMM has demonstrated once again what it means to be the leading international trade fair of the maritime industry.
