Passenger with Stroke Symptoms Medevaced from Cruise Ship Off San Diego

A Coast Guard helicopter aircrew medically evacuated a 57-year-old woman from the cruise ship Carnival Radiance approximately 35 miles southwest of Point Loma, Saturday. Carnival Radiance crewmembers contacted Coast Guard Sector San Diego Joint Harbor Operations Center watchstanders at approximately 4:30 p.m. requesting assistance for a passenger displaying stroke symptoms.Watchstanders launched a Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew with a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Special Tactics and Rescue (STAR) Team paramedic aboard to assist.Once on the scene, the helicopter crew lowered the rescue swimmer, recovered the patient and transported her to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. The patient was reported to be in stable condition.

US Coast Guard Medevacs Five Passengers Off Cruise Ships Within 24 Hours

US Coast Guard helicopter aircrews medically evacuated four separate passengers off three different cruise ships, off the southern California coast, during a 24-hour period beginning Friday night.A 47-year-old woman, reportedly suffering from a progressive acute illness, was hoisted off the cruise ship Carnival Panorama, which was 100 miles south of San Diego. The cruise ship and an MH-60 Jayhawk aircrew from Coast Guard Sector San Diego rendezvoused 100 miles south of San Diego.

Bulk Carrier Operator and Chief Engineer Convicted for Dumping Offenses

Vessel operating company New Trade Ship Management S.A. and chief engineer Dennis Plasabas pleaded guilty in San Diego for maintaining false and incomplete records relating to the discharge of oily bilge water from the bulk carrier vessel Longshore.New Trade and Plasabas admitted that oily bilge water was illegally dumped from the Longshore directly into the ocean without being properly processed through required pollution prevention equipment. Oily bilge water typically contains oil contamination from the operation and cleaning of machinery on the vessel. The defendants also admitted that these illegal discharges were not recorded in the vessel’s oil record book as required by law.

Boat Catches Fire, Sinks Off Carlsbad, California

Coast Guard Rescues Family from a Mudslide

The U.S. Coast Guard said it conducted multiple rescues during a mudslide response in Santa Barbara County, Tuesday. At approximately 9 a.m., Tuesday, a Coast Guard Sector San Diego MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched to assist Santa Barbara County Fire Department with rescues after heavy rains caused mudslides in the Santa Barbara County area. At approximately 11:30 a.m., the Jayhawk crew was notified of a family needing assistance in Carpentaria, Calif. The crew arrived on scene and lowered both rescue swimmers to evaluate the situation.

USCG Commandant Visits Port of San Diego

Admiral Paul Zukunft, Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, visited the Port of San Diego’s administrative offices on February 12. The Commandant was in town to participate in the 2015 Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association /U.S. Naval Institute Conference held at the San Diego Convention Center. During his visit to the port, the Commandant participated in a briefing that included Dan Malcolm, Chairman of the Board of Port Commissioners; Acting President and CEO John Bolduc; Acting Chief of Harbor Police Mark Stainbrook and other senior Port staff members.

Ailing Cruise Ship Crewman Medevaced

A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crew medically evacuated an ailing 46-year-old crewman from a cruise ship nearly 60 miles southwest of San Diego, Tuesday. The cruise ship Carnival Inspiration contacted the Coast Guard just after noon requesting assistance for the crewman experiencing chest pain. Sea-borne Literally: Coast Guard Assist Mother

The Panamanian-flagged vehicle carrier 'Caribbean Highway', 110 miles off San Diego, contacted the Coast Guard  requesting assistance for a 21-year-old crewmember who was in labor. A MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Sector San Diego transported a Coast Guard flight surgeon and civilian midwife to the ship to help delivery of a baby girl. The ship continued toward San Diego through the night and the mother and baby were taken to Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for further care.

Stennis Assists Coast Guard

USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) participated in a joint rescue effort off the coast of San Diego June 4. At approximately 8:15 a.m., U.S. Coast Guard Helicopter 6040 from Coast Guard Sector San Diego responded to a medical emergency aboard the charter fishing vessel Holiday involving a 52-year-old male who was apparently suffering a heart attack. “We heard the call from the fishing boat to the Coast Guard over the bridge-to-bridge [radio],” said Stennis’ Commanding Officer, Capt. Brad E. Johanson. “We notified the Coast Guard that we did not have a helicopter aboard, but we did have medical facilities and offered our assistance. Within an hour and a half, Stennis reduced the 60-nautical mile gap to within about 15 nautical miles and was standing by to receive the rescue helicopter.
