New Heater Kits for Northern Sea Route Vessels

These heater kits will enable Marine Navigation Radar Turning Units to be operated in temperatures down below -55 degrees Celsius, in addition to keeping the S-Band and X-Band sensors in the turning units free from ice. Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine has designed them to be attached in the field at or after installation, and they are compatible with all VisionMaster FT (VMFT) radar sensors. "Ships operating in the Arctic environments are exposed to a number of unique risks and we recognize the need to ensure that our equipment is capable of functioning effectively under the challenges of polar operations," said Jeanne Usher, managing director, Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine.

BCG Releases PCVM Emulation

Buffalo Computer Graphics (BCG) Inc. announced the addition of another emulation product to its family of Radar Simulators. BCG has completed an emulation of the VisionMaster FT radar – our PCVM. PCVM utilizes the same simulation engine as the rest of BCG’s products, which results in a powerful training tool used to familiarize a student with the use of the VisionMaster radar for ship navigation and collision avoidance training. The radar image incorporates realistic simulation of landmass, moving targets, precipitation returns, sea clutter and other effects seen on a real radar.

Northrop Grumman Enhances VMFT Software

Northrop Grumman Corporation announced that its latest VisionMaster FT (VMFT) software now includes ADMIRALTY Information Overlay (AIO) as an integral element of its Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) based navigation system making additional chart information available to ship’s navigators. In the past, navigators have relied on the ADMIRALTY Temporary and Preliminary Notices to Mariners (T&P NMs) to manually update their paper charts. AIO is a free service included with the ADMIRALTY Vector Chart Service (AVCS).

Sperry Navigation Systems for 7 Bulk Carriers

Northrop Grumman Corporation is introducing the VisionMaster FT Electronic Chart Display and Information System-E (ECDIS-E), a new cost-effective navigation solution for commercial tankers, container ships, bulk carries and passenger ferries including retrofit installations. Based on the Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT platform, the new ECDIS-E combines an optimized feature set with easy to install hardware. The system meets International Maritime Organization requirements for certain classes of vessels operating internationally to be equipped with ECDIS for paperless navigation. Northrop Grumman to Supply Marine Navigation Equipment for Suez Canal Authority. Northrop Grumman Corporation's Sperry Marine business unit has won orders to supply navigation equipment to the Suez Canal Authority for tugboats and other assorted workboats. The orders include radar upgrades for 10 boats, and complete integrated bridge systems (IBS) for four new builds. The IBS is based on Northrop Grumman's VisionMaster FT navigation technology with TotalWatch multifunction workstations, which include electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS), radars, conning displays and interfaces with positioning, heading, speed and depth sensors. The orders were won through Radio Holland Egypt (RHE), Northrop Grumman's sales and service representative in Egypt.

Northrop Grumman Awarded Contract for UK Aircraft Carriers

LONDON, March 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE: NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has signed a full production contract for the Integrated Navigation Bridge System (INBS) for the U.K. Ministry of Defence's (MoD) Queen Elizabeth Class (QEC) Aircraft Carrier Programme. The company also signed a design phase contract for the Navigation Lights, Shapes and Sounds (NLSS). Terms of the contracts were not disclosed. Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine will build and deliver the complete INBS, including electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS-N (U.K.)) for the new aircraft carriers. The system will include navigation planning, electronic charts and radar displays, as well as a comprehensive set of sensors and software.

NOC Supplies Italian Bulk Carriers

Northrop Grumman Corporation has been selected to supply the bridge navigation systems for three new bulk carriers being built in China for Italian shipowner Deiulemar Shipping. Each of the ships is to be fitted with the company’s Sperry Marine VisionMaster FT S- and X-band radars, gyrocompass, autopilot, steering control, speed log, echosounder, voyage data recorder and other navigation systems. The equipment is being supplied through Telemar, the sales and service representative for Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine products and systems in Italy. Telemar will oversee the installations and provide technical support and service for the shipboard navigation systems.

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) has supplied the integrated bridge systems (IBS) for two new high-speed passenger ferries for the Norwegian ferry operator Fjord1 Fylkesbaatane. The $19m firm, fixed-price contract was awarded to Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit by Swiftships Shipbuilders, LLC of Morgan City, La. Work on the contract will be performed by Northrop Grumman’s Ocean Springs, Miss., facility. Under the contract, each of the vessels will be fitted with an integrated bridge system (IBS) based on Sperry Marine’s new-generation VisionMaster FT navigation technology.
