MPRI, a leader in maritime simulator products
, services and turnkey training facilities, sold its SAfeCargo Liquid Cargo Handling Simulators (LCHS) in some of the world's top maritime academies, including its first three in the United States
. Within the last two months SAfeCargo simulators have been adopted by the Massachusetts Maritime Academy
in Buzzards Bay
, the State University of New York Maritime
Academy in the Bronx and Belgium-based Antwerp Maritime Academy
. In November the RTM STAR Center
in Dania Beach, Fla., will also install the system.
"We purchased the SAfeCargo Liquid Cargo Handling Simulators from MPRI primarily
for their ease of use by both the students and the instructors," said Craig Dalton, Captain, Massachusetts Maritime Academy. "The high quality of program modeling and cost efficiency of SAfeCargo have added to the school's overall success in training."
SAfeCargo is a PC-based simulator designed to provide real-time training in all aspects of handling bulk liquids and gases, both ashore and afloat. The system simulates the thermodynamic and fluid properties of liquids and gases aboard vessels and shore based facilities. The process-controlled systems used in the storage and handling of hazardous bulk liquids are unique, and SAfeCargo offers a versatile training system which allows for full simulation from practical introduction to detailed problem solving techniques. The technology is quick and easy to install and allows for flexible student-station configurations.

The graphics displayed on SAfeCargo's typical multi-monitor configuration for the students and instructors represent actual control systems found on real vessels. With a vast model library, all onboard operations can be conducted and practiced, including cargo planning and tank preparation, cargo loading/unloading/heating and use of compressors; automatic and manual gas detection facilities; and supply of gas to boilers where applicable, together with fully integrated stress and stability, SAfeCargo offers all the facilities required to allow for safe, hands-on training for all operators associated with the handling and transport of liquid cargos.
